"When are we going to FEEL the effects? Huh? WHEN??"
Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 12:41 PM by Avalux
"Tell me when we are going to feel the effects of the stimulus bill?? How quickly are those people who are jobless going to find employment?"

- Alex (T)Witt of MSNBC badgering a US News and World Report reporter.

This country has got to get beyond instant gratification. There is no quick fix to the mess we're in; in fact, it's the main REASON we
we're in it. It's almost as if no one's listening to Obama when he says the situation is very serious and it's going to take time and people are going to have to be patient.

Sometimes I wonder if Americans even know the meaning of that word.

1. That's funny. AIG and Citibank didn't have to wait for THEIR bailout.
But Americans who are out of work are just too damn impatient? :wtf:

4. My point -
Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 12:48 PM by Avalux
I lost my job last Monday. I hold no fantasies that when Obama signs the stimulus bill I will suddenly have a job and that the economy will suddenly improve.

Recovery will take time; with me personally and with the economy.

So yeah, I get annoyed with these impatient idiots on TV who have high expectations of immediate relief from the bill. I also question the motives for their 'concern'.

12. And my point is that "recovery" took no time at all for the rich and well connected.
They've already gotten hundreds of billions of taxpayer $$$. You just blew off that (minor?) detail...

18. Oh, I see. Well, if you ignore current events, then your point is a good one.
If you are aware of the alacrity with which hundreds of billions of dollars of taxpayer monies were distributed to the likes of GE, Citi, and AIG, then your point makes little sense, however.

3. Fer cryin' out loud, the bill hasn't even been officially voted on or
passed yet. Seems a lot of the unemployed are a lot more patient than people on DU.

7. Well the increase in $ for unemployed, extension of unemployment benefits, and increase in food
stamps should start fairly soon. The tax cut portion in the second half of this year.

13. That will definitely help.
I just worry that if those waiting in judgment (MSM and repukes) don't see immediate returns in the economic numbers, the stimulus will be deemed a failure.

19. spending "MAY" have been up 1 percent but YOY still down....
"The U.S. Census Bureau announced today that advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for January, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $344.6 billion, an increase of 1.0 percent (±0.5%) from the previous month, but 9.7 percent (±0.7%) below January 2008. ""but not for price changes"" gas prices have been going up. part of the spending "increase"???

20. We need confidence and positive news, so I will take it and spread it.
I know it's barely something to mention, but little by little, it will help.

22. Patience requires maturity. I was much more impatient when I was
younger. But it's gotten ridiculous these days. I have large numbers of clients that actually expect their sick animal to be diagnosed and successfully treated within one to two hours, the length of a typical TV show or movie.

It's that Idiocracy thing, I'm afraid........

24. Considering it took eight years of fiscal malfeasance to run this ship aground
I'm guessing it will take until March, at least. What a pinhead Mr. Witt is.
