Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 01:13 PM by wryter2000
He could possibly beat the Dem who was running for her seat, depending on who it was.

12. If he could somehow avoid the primary, maybe
the CA Republican primary seems designed to weed out everyone but the real batshit crazy wing, which is one reason the current 2 senators hold on to their seats.

Arnold didn't have to deal with the state GOP before so he had an easier chance of getting in. I think he's lost a lot of popularity (I think he was up to mediocre before his own party started derailing his budget proposals) and he doesn't have the diplomacy necessary for the Senate, IMHO.

14. No.
The state workers including correctional officers hate him, the rethugs hate him and every democrat I know hates him. His career is over. He is lucky he is not getting recalled.

16. Overseeing the failure of the world's 8th largest economy... Really, are Californians
and others that frikkin stupid?

Stop the insanity folks.

It is time for some serious backhanding of stupid folks out there. For the less violent among you-- how about an airhorn to the face of anyone who makes a boneheaded statement along the lines of Arnie ever holding public office again.

19. After putting him in office in the first place, and the whole
recall disaster, I think they might put him in the Senate. There are still so many people who are star-struck here, that I think it could happen. Even though the very things that the Repukes managed to recall Grey Davis for (increased taxes, car fees, etc.) now Arnold is faced with the same problems and he is solving them the same way. Even with all of this, I think the star factor comes into play. I guess I don't have much faith in my fellow Californians.

I agree Bluestar. Never underestimate the huge pockets of deep conservatism here in California. I live in very red part of state(and feel like a fish out of water for sure)and it's kneee deep in Faux News and Limbaugh lovers who think he's God. Kinda scary at times.

23. It really depends...
If he runs in the Republican Primary and most of the Republicans are still in the "Bush was great!!!" mode....not a chance. They will throw another bat shit crazy candidate to go down in flames.

If they wise up and realize that no die hard conservative can get elected to office when their fiefdom consists of the central valley, Orange and San Diego County and that is shrinking considerably and run him...yes provided the two conditions below are met:

1. He's not running against Boxer.
2. Fienstien gives up her seat to run as governor.

And the reason he has a chance for her seat is the only difference between those two is a D and an R.

Garamendii is viewed as too much as an opportunist and if he ran, he's going to have a hard time pinning the budget mess on Arnold since most I believe have waken up and realized this mess is due to the legislature inability to cooperate.

26. Two answers: if election were tomorrow, NO. But it's next year, so: MAYBE.
Voters have short memories and short attention spans, plus the time between now & then is an ETERNITY in political terms.

Time will tell.

27. Can I answer even though I am in CT?
I would say "absolutely". And I don't think he is that bad as far as Repukes go. He doesn't strike me as a religious or warmongering nutcase like Huckabee or Cheney and seems to be willing to work with Dems when necessary.
