MSNBC Anchor, Peter Alexander, Apologizes After Saying "Colored People" (VIDEO)
MSNBC Anchor, Peter Alexander, Apologizes After Saying "Colored People" (VIDEO)

MSNBC anchor Peter Alexander apologized Wednesday for "words" he said during an interview with NAACP President Benjamin Jealous.

Read the apology and watch the exchange below:

"If any of my words in that conversation were of any offense, I want to take this time to apologize. We do want to congratulate all people of color today..."

5. Great observation on your part! I hate these new, half assed "apologies."

2. It's hard to get the context from a 40 second clip, and not seeing the entire interview.
I don't know anything about this anchor, and have no intention of defending his words, but I got the impression that he was saying "colored people" in the sense that it happens to be the last two words in the full name of the NAACP. If that's the case, his intent wouldn't have been offensive or racist, though I can see how it would be taken that way. Maybe the NAACP should consider dropping that outdated name?

4. I've wondered about that very thing for a long time..
I know it's been named that for a very long time, but maybe it's time they DID change their letters around..

I didn't see the original interview either, nor do I know this anchor, but you're right. If he was enunciating the entire name of the NAACP, that is what the CP stands for. I have thought often that it should be changed.

7. I saw it, and think it was an innocent slip.
They were talking about the NAACP, and the slip was in context of the organization and its name.

8. He really seems like a back-bencher.
An amateur who ends every interview with some lame opinion he thinks will reconcile all differences.

Besides, he has the same jaw-set as John Cornyn, which for some reason makes them both look dumber than dirt.

I think that makes me more superficial than dirt, but there it is. :)

I would give him a complete pass.
Saying that the NAACP award honors "Colored People" is well somewhat accurate.

(If it wasn't the NAACP I would understand the fuss)

12. Colored People is offensive but People of Color is OK...
I don't understand how transposing two words can cause so much offense...
