The Case for a G.W. Bush Monument
The Case for a G.W. Bush Monument

By David Swanson
February 12, 2009

A letter to the editor in my local newspaper, the Charlottesville Daily Progress, has persuaded me to rethink the truly remarkable accomplishments of President George W. Bush and inspired me to join the movement to erect a Bush Memorial on the National Mall.

The letter, published on Feb. 9, was from David H. Edmunds of Albemarle County and listed just nine of Bush's good deeds, beginning with this one:

"He kept the country safe from terrorist attack for seven years following 9/11."

<snip>

The solution, I think, would be the low-cost erection of a chain-link George W. Bush Free Speech Cage, both to memorialize the professionalism of his staff's crackdown on public interaction with the President and to maintain proper control over future demonstrations.

Unlike almost any other structure, which would inevitably be ruined by vandals, a chain-link fence withstands most attempts at defacement, and shoes thrown at it will sometimes stick and remain there, leaving the misguided citizen to go home barefoot if he has a home.

1. My dog left a monument to GW Bush in the back yard this morning.
I will cherish it always.

Or at least until it decomposes.

4. No, they decided sewage treatment was useful and therefore not a fitting monument.
However there are quite a few mountain tops in Appalachia that they may dedicate instead.

3. Another idea.....
...a statue with Two Shoes in some sort of heroic posture and a standing order for the National Parks to spread bread crumbs around the perimeter to attract as many pigeons as possible.

7. I was thinking of something along the lines of a public toilet.
And to immortalize his incompetence, it shouldn't be hooked up to the sewer system, either.

8. Maybe it should have faulty electrical wiring as well.
When you sit on the toilet you get zapped.

9. How about urinal cakes in the shape of Bush's head?
It seems to be a fitting and renewable monument.
