Mr. Beef faces foreclosure (sad story about medical debts bringing down a biz)

Mr. Beef, the popular Italian beef sandwich restaurant serving River North for 30 years, is facing a foreclosure lawsuit filed by a bank seeking more than $600,000.

One of the restaurant's owners, Joseph Zucchero, said the problems with Midwest Bank arose when he had to cover the costs of a business partner who was unable to put up money for another restaurant co-owned by Zucchero, Natalino's at 1523 W. Chicago Ave.

"Here's a guy who spent to try and life. She had brain cancer. You don't bail out on a partner. You don't do that," Zucchero said this morning as he cut meat at Mr. Beef, 666 N. Orleans St.

Zucchero said Midwest is seeking to collect more than $300,000 relating to Mr. Beef, and another $300,000 relating to Natalino's, which opened last year.

1. I never understood the Mr. Beef love
I thought their gravy was s little greasy.

I'm more of a Johnnies man (like everyone). I also like chickie's on Pulaski and Boston's on chicago.

Mr. Beef has it's reputation because of location. Take a little drive and you can find much better beefs.

2. perhaps it was more of a "bad business decision"..expansion
"...cover the costs of a business partner who was unable to put up money for another restaurant co-owned by Zucchero, Natalino's at 1523 W. Chicago Ave..."

The downturn of the economy has been in the works for some time now.. It's too bad he could not have gotten a new investor..

3. Not to hijack, but... "Here's a guy who spent to try and life."
Did the "journalist" who wrote this article drop out of school in junior high, or earlier?

Computer spellcheckers only go so far. The best spellchecker is the one between your ears.

7. You're right, I only read the snips, mea culpa.
In the context of the OP though, I had a point, since the parentheses had been edited out.

8. See, that puzzled me, too...........
If it was a cut-and-copy thing, why edit out the parentheses?

I was just teasin' you, I hope you know that, and you handled it really sweetly.
