There will be no tax rebate checks with Obama stimulus program
I see that a lot of people here think that the Obama tax cut will include another round of rebate checks like we got under Bush, but that is not the way this plan will be. Instead of one rebate check we will get a reduction in the federal withholding tax:

Update Feb 3 2009] One of the most common questions/comments I get is around how Obama's 2009 stimulus tax rebate be paid. While the 2009 stimulus has not been approved by the Senate (due to vote this week), the following is my understanding for payment of the tax credit.

Workers- You can get the tax credit through adjustments in the federal tax withholding on your paycheck. This will result in an increase in your take home pay of between $10 and $20 based on your tax rate. The tax rebate is available in 2009 and 2010.

There are exceptions. I believe the Obama bill will give a one-time rebate check of $150 to disabled people on SSI and to seniors who receive social security.

1. Aww. And no $35,000,000.00 advance-letter, 'help is on the way' mailing?

2. LOL
$150 for disabled and seniors? That's such a tiny tiny drop in the bucket compared to massive bailout money given to CEOs and corporations.

6. Didn't leave them out...your unemployment check will increase by ..$25
If you still have a car, and if it still runs, you can put gas in it.

8. What unemployment check might that be? I get no unemployment.
Not everyone who is unemployed or underemployed is getting something to help them along. I am not and I've had to dip into my retirement funds just to make ends meet.

10. Sorry..wasn't referring to your lack of unemployment per se..Just the fact
that the ones hanging on by one small unemployment check were given a mere $25 for their job seeking efforts. And good luck with that.

As to your situation I sympathize. Many who have exhausted their benefits, if they actually qualified at all since many employers are fighting their laid-off employees from getting anything, are to do WHAT?
I don't know how human beings can exist with nothing but hope, but I think I've been there a time or 2. With two small children at that & no child support in sight.
Tell me again how to feed your family on $400 a month, since those years are just a painful blurr to me now.
Maybe I should have had 14 kids. Too.

My best to you. Sincerely mean that.

9. What I wanted to say is that I get no unemployment to increase,
and I am only working sporadically doing temp work. I could sure use a rebate check just to help ends meet for awhile, but what I really could use is a job and there are none to be had here.
