Mike Malloy: The Republican Party needs to be eliminated.
Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 09:27 PM by marmar
:applause: from the "Amen" corner.

They serve no useful purpose. There's no reasoning with them. They'll gladly destroy the country if they think it will return them to power.

May they all rot in pieces. I hate to say I hate anyone, but I hate them all. ..... :argh:

to quote Billy Idol:
"Got no human grace
you're eyes without a face
Such a human waste
you're eyes without a face"

2010 needs to be a reckoning. We need an uprising that makes the 2008 election pale. I think that fundraising is going to be extremely challenging (coincidence, no?) but we have to finish the job.

Country and the World, bring them down, expose them, vote them out and prosecute them and if necessary jail them. They must go now and asap.

and let them have their own little Taliban world. We can build that wall they have always wanted and they can have the two tiered social system they so desperatly want.

They are useless, they do not care about America they have proven this over and over again.

AND THEN hold them completely accountable for the cheney*/bush* years. Oh, and while we're holding the rethuglicans accountable, let's not forget their democrat accomplices that have allowed these criminals to plunder and pillage at will. The damage wrought by cheney*/bush* will take DECADES to make right. And even then there is a chance that the country will never recover completely.

They have set us on a path to ruin. And if this American experiment really worked, they would all have been in jail for war crimes long ago, and we wouldn't even be at this point. This is not a law abiding party that disagrees with us. This is a party of torturers, war criminals, corporate crooks, and all around ass holes. They should be treated like the criminals they are.

50. He is utterly and completely correct
except about Timmeh the Tool Pawlenty. He so desperately wants to be a national candidate that he is willing to slit the throats of all non-wealthy Minnesotans to keep his ideological virginity about, what else, taxes.

I can only speak for what I have seen up here in Lake Wobegon country, but in the last twenty years the pukes have actively, loudly and publicly purged virtually every moderate from their ranks. A woman named Judi Dutcher was our state auditor back in the 1990s. Smart, very moderate and capable Republican. She was denied endorsement for a second term and then thrown out of the party because she was openly pro-choice. Mull that over for a while. She was the state AUDITOR - an accountant and watchdog, not a policymaker, but she was expelled from the party because of her position on an issue her office had no control over. She's been a Democrat now for more than a decade.

Once the Minnesota Republican party was the home to principled moderates like former governors Elmer L. Anderson, Harold LeVander and Arne Carlson. All were good-to-excellent governors in the classic, centrist good-government traditions of the state. In 2004, both Anderson and Carlson publicly endorsed John Kerry for President, and Carlson endorsed Obama last year (Gov. Anderson passed away in 2006, IIRC).

Carlson himself was the ONLY Repub in Minnesota in the last 15-20 years to knock the crossketeers on their asses. A RW goon was endorsed by the Repigs for governor back in 1990; said goon beat Carlson in the primary. Typically, he was then caught with his pants down (literally) about ten days before the election and resigned from the ticket. Carlson stepped in, as the only plausible alternative (he was state auditor at the time and was succeeded by Judi Dutcher) though he was HATED by the bible junkies, and won the general election. Four years later, the Repigs refused to endorse him for reelection and cast their lot with a shrieking loony who couldn't even win the Repuke primary. Carlson handily won reelection. During his eight years as gov, Arne had far more problems with the whackjob reichwingers in the state lege than he ever had with the Dems. The pukes will never allow that to happen again.

The handful of Repubs who voted to override Timmeh's veto of a desperately needed transportation bill a couple of years ago were all purged. Dissent is not tolerated. That the repigs are now a purely fascist party cannot be denied.

27. Most of the sane moderates are no longer Republican
I not only believe the Republican Party, as it exists and appears to want to exist, right now, should be destroyed, I believe it *is* being destroyed. And it isn't being destroyed from the outside. The party is well on its way to self destruction.

There's little we can do to destroy it that we wouldn't be ordinarily doing. Just keep speaking the truth and funding the speaking of the truth by others, especially good candidates.

This kind of self destruction is characteristic of the not-Democrat party (yes, there is continuity between the Federalists, the Whigs, and the Republicans -- they're effectively the corporatist party, with a bad habit of getting into crises, collapsing, and reconstituting themselves. A Federalist would find himself largely in agreement with one of today's corporatist Republicans.

I think the not-Democrat party has done it again, and is about to disappear itself, under its current label, from history. If past history is any guide, what will happen is they will become increasingly a regional party, losing all national influence within a couple of decades, and disappearing altogether, even as a minor party, shortly after the next incarnation of the corporate party is formed.

And I think we'll get our next major party not because someone outside the system organizes it, but because the Democratic Party, after some time as the only major national party, will split. We'll end up with a DLC party and a Progressive Caucus party, more or less, with one claiming title to the "Democratic Party" label (this will be determined by whichever faction has effective control of the DNC at the time of the split), and the other taking another name. So it's a toss-up at this point whether we'll have a "Progressive Party" or a Democratic Party composed largely of the progressive wing of the Democratic Party.

But even if the DLC/Blue Dog faction of the party retains the name "Democratic Party", it will still be just the most recent incarnation of the Not-Democrat Party. We'll have them for maybe a century or so, and then they'll screw up and collapse into oblivion, just like they always do.

35. Actually, the GOP started out as a left-wing party.
in 1860 the Democratic Party were the conservatives and the Republican Party were the liberals. Between 1868, when the corporatists began infiltrating the GOP and 1968 when the Dixiecrats bolted the Democratic Party the two parties have completely flip-flopped.

40. Well-- not quite
We like to think entirely benevolent thoughts about the antislavery forces that formed the Republican Party. But here's the "catch": the corporatists didn't infiltrate the party in 1868 -- they formed the party.

That hotbed of antislavery sentiment, the Northeast? Corporatist. The South? Agrarian, populist, and racist to the bone. Remember, at that point in our history industrialization meant progress, and agrarian populism was a conservative movement.

Somewhat later you see that progressive movement split between the unabashed supporters of a new aristocracy, and "progressives" of the Teddy Roosevelt sort who recognized that industrialization comes with its own set of problems that must be reigned in, the sort that look a whole lot more familiar to us. And as that was all happening, of course, the Democrats were reinventing themselves, culminating with Al Smith and the Democratic Party as we know it today.

49. Saying "corporatists formed the party" is a bit anachronistic IMO.
It's more correct to say that the young, innovative industries that were shaking up the economic status quo at the time were drawn naturally to a new party that was against the old economic elites. The turning point was the Grant presidency, when Civil War vets started dominating the party and the old radicals lost control. The loss of the influence of the old radicals left a hole that business leaders and their lackeys came to fill and they started using the party as a tool for business. This alienated mid-western farmers and urban factory workers, leading to the rise of the Populists and the Progressives. Midwestern populism slowly brought more and more of the rural West and Midwest into the Democratic Party when the Populists merged with the Democrats in 1892 and William Jennings Bryan became the Dem presidential candidate. Progressivism affected both parties but it was initially more of a Republican phenomenon.

The next phase started in 1912 when progressives, under the leadership of Teddy Roosevelt, bolted from the GOP and started developing stronger ties with rural populists and the labor movements. This culminated in the New Deal Coalition, which absorbed the Progressives into the Democratic Party.

Finally, in 1968 the Dixiecrats bolted, resulting in the Democratic Party we know today.

My point was that business didn't suddenly "infiltrate" -- business was there from the beginning (and I was typing that out while waiting for a cab to take me to an unexpected and unwelcome dental appointment. I strongly recommend that people in their 50s do not chew Conversation Hearts unless they really like their molars exploding into large, painful, pieces...).

I concur with the rest of your additional details as well.

69. It has come around full circle.
I guess I have to add that today, in 2009, the Republican Party tends to represent small business owners and individual, non-union workers more than the Democrat Party, which represents wealthy individuals, politically-connected corporations, and labor unions.

So the whole thing has come around again. Today the Republican Party is ‘progressive’ while the Democrats represent ossified, established institutions and failed 20th century dogma like socialism.

If you'll permit me a geeky moment here, I feel like Kirk did right at the end of Star Trek 3 when he had the Klingon commander dangling from the edge of a cliff. Kirk reaches his hand out to help him and the Klingon grabs his ankle and tries to pull him over. Kirk then says, "I (kick to head) HAVE HAD (kick to head) ENOUGH OF YOU!" (Final kick to head, Klingon falls to his death screaming).

That's about where I'm at the the Republican Party right now.

45. We need a multi-party system. That way the wacko
wing-nut conservatives would consist of only a tiny minority and wouldn't have much chance of taking over the whole country. There would be more moderate conservative parties as there would be various shades of left wing parties. This can be accomplished with run-off voting. Then we would find what the true center is not the artificial one that Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and the DLC like to expound about.

We don't need people with no conscience or empathy having a political party. We don't have the government for greedy bullies to destroy and pillage. If the rethugs don't have the sense to shut up and go away,if they keep that selfish bullshit going, the people who already hate the psychopath party won't tolerate the robber baron, fundie cultie bully loudmouth ,ignorant assholes on the right much longer. And if they go too far one day it will become open season on bigots.

Who's goin' chicken huntin'? ICP..

62. It is time to utterly crush the Republican party
We have the votes in the House of Representatives.

We have the vote in the Senate.

We have the Executive Branch.

We don't need the Republicans to Govern.

It is time to remove the Republicans from play and implement full progressive policies in this country.

63. This thread is Fascism on display
Fascism is an authoritarian nationalist ideology focused on solving economic, political, and social problems that its supporters see as causing national decline or decadence.Fascists aim to create a single-party state in which the government is led by a dictator who seeks unity by requiring individuals to subordinate self-interest to the collective interest of the nation or a race.Fascist movements promote violent conflict between nations, political factions, and races as part of a social darwinist view that conflict between these groups is natural and a part of evolution.

Fascist governments permanently forbid and suppress all criticism and opposition to the government and the fascist movement. Fascist movements oppose any ideology or political system that gives direct political power to people as individuals rather than as a collective through the state; that is deemed detrimental to national identity and unity; that protects and enhances the power of "weak" people rather than promoting "strong" people; that may oppose major changes to institutions and cultural values that it proposes and that undermine the military strength and military ambitions of the nation

You people clearly define the mindset of fascism. The funny thing is, you accuse Republicans of being exactly what you are. That is insanity people, pure insanity. You are willing to murder others to further your politics. You are willing to quiet any opposing views with violence. Do you people ever listen to yourselves?

78. In 25 years, there will be no Republican Party
The Republicans may even have trouble putting up a viable candidate in 2012.

This does not mean we would be left with a one party system. It only means that the select elite controlling the Republican Party will be swept aside, and (hopefully) a centrist fiscally conservative group will reform under a new name. The big business / religious fundamentals who have hijacked the votes of the people on the right side of the isle have struck a path to disaster from which they will never recover. However, the political system in this country will recover and two party elections will continue.

Other parties have come and gone, but the result was not a one party system.

Federalist Party
Whig Party
Populist Party

64. What would emerge in its place?
I'm not particularly pleased with our de facto two party system. I'd be less happy with one party, even if I happen to agree with it usually.

Could the Greens step up? Think the Democratic Christians would pick up right-centrists? And do we really want to see the Constitution Party or Libertarians gain momentum?

I, too, would like to watch the Republican party (at least as it is now) disintegrate, but I can't envision what would replace it as opposition.

79. REPUBLICAN BASHING
What is being advocated is the individual, or collective,
assault of other people. This is not a good thing. It only
leads to strife on an individual level going towards a
collective level. In other words, this is an invitation to
riot and even CIVIL WAR. Of course this last term is a
contradiction in that such an activity is not civil in any
sense of the word. This is truly a case of being careful what
you wish for. What is being wished for is civil unrest and
even revolution. In view of the recent large increase in
sales of one type of product this is even more a very negative
thought/sentiment.

80. That's quite a stretch...
From wishing the GOP would disappear to civil war? What you have said could only be true if the Dems were a violent lot... not a chance. The GOP could easily turn on itself, split, and war among themselves.

Malloy never called for violence. I've been here a long time and the only people I've ever seen call for violence were Freeper Trolls.
