The "truth" is oh so very very often unrelated to facts.
When someone who doesn't see things like you controls the media and the loudest, clearest, simplest public message, that person usually is able to create "truth". Sometimes you can present refutational facts from now till next Tuesday and still not change the "truth".

Complicated stuff is harder to change than stupid stuff. Unless stupid stuff is harder to change than complicated stuff.

We have damned few friends in the media. And they're like a few salmon trying to swim upstream after the dam has reached flood stage and gone around the spillway and down the ladder.

You can ridicule the "believers" all you wish. Unless you change their minds, you may as well be spitting into the wind.

1. That's why people like KO and Rachel
are so precious.

The imbalance - that graph you posted a while ago - is preposterous.

I am choosing to believe that our country is weary of being talked down to, and that more people than we think are hungry for the truth. The real truth, not the contrived, dumbed-down GOPig version of how things are.

OUR PRESIDENT OBAMA (how do I make words go bold or italic?) tells the truth and doesn't pander to the dumbest in the crowd. I honestly believe that will elevate our level of public discourse and bring out the best in everyone.

I might be mentally ill, though.

4. It seems there was a bit of a sea change late in the BushYears ......
.... when all but the very worst of the back wash saw him for what he was.

That gives me hope that truth may, indeed, win out.

But then ...... I was also hopeful in 1972 when I both saw the truth in the lie that was Bruno Sammartino and married for the first time. Only one of those truths has endured.

8. Tangerine, good to see you!
Okay. Words that are bold or italic. You'll use the brackets above, then when you're done, you use a backslash in front of the letter (b) or (i) to shut off the tag. Hopefully, this is clear as mud, huh?

I'm also choosing to believe that the country is tired of being talked down to. Plus, our new president tells it like it is. I almost don't know how to take that -- after all, I spent eight years flinching whenever Commander Bunnypants opened his mouth. Truth? Sunshine? What's that?

There are millions right now that are out of work and scared shitless. If this is not a wakeup call for those who previously just couldn't keep up, I don't know what is.

The back of the GOP is just about broken. If the economic recovery plan is successful, they'll be wandering in the desert of their own idiocy for a long, long time.

11. Julie, you doll!!!
I just posted something using BOLD!!!! And it WORKED!!

Thanks to you.

How come you changed your hat? The new one is nice, albeit trampy.

Yes, we have to believe that the better instincts of people will rise up and prevail. I couldn't live thinking that the world was as the GOPigs picture it.

OUR PRESIDENT OBAMA is going to be able to capitalize in a big way on the recalcitrance of the GOPigs who have behaved so badly during this episode, and he'll bring the American public along with him.

We have to believe.

Again, thanks for giving me bold and italic..................

9. I hope you're right, and here's how...
Edited on Fri Feb-13-09 11:28 AM by Greyhound
< b >Texttexttext< / b > minus spaces = Bold

Change b to i and you have italics

u = underline

strike = strike through

sub = subscript

there's more, but I haven't had my coffee yet

:hi:

Edit; It's the square brackets not the greater than/less than signs, I don't know why they are displaying that way.

2. I think it is a little tougher than that
For one thing people are fed a series of lies almost from birth. The rightwing media is not just feeding them new lies, it is feeding them data that supports and adds to the foundation of lies that makes up their worldview. Often the grade-school view is only torn down by a college education.

3. The college education just reinforces a more refined version of the same basic lies.
