Sen. Inhofe pushes for tax cuts by citing JFK's Great Society

Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla) was just on C-SPAN where he cited President John F. Kennedy's famous 1961 tax-cut to boost a flagging economy as one reason he believes the current economic stimulus should have included more tax cuts.

I don't have his verbatim quote but he said something along the lines of: "President Kennedy understood this. When he needed more revenue to fund the Great Society, he cut taxes."

Well, not exactly. In case the senator decides to use the same argument during the Senate floor debate to occur later today or tomorrow, it was President Lyndon Johnson's Great Society. Kennedy had the New Frontier.

1. The other important piece he forgot was when JFK cut the tax rates,

he also eliminaated a LOT of the loopholes the rich were using. Even JFK said that although the highest rate was 90%, NOBODY PAID THAT RATE!

Fortunately, Sen. Dummkopf gets a national platform from which to spew his uninformed talking points. It was Lyndon Johnson's Great Society, not John Kennedy's. The cutting taxes idea came at a time when the highest tax rate was 90% (which nobody actually paid), not 33% (which only middle class wage earners pay).

But I'll play along; let's cut the tax rates to what they were in 1962.

but what got me was the host tried to be so tricky. Inhofe had the last 15 min. of the show. the host started calls with a Rep., then Ind, then dem. Inhofe talked time away so that it was a Reg., Ind. and oops no more dems.

like we don't notice these things.

He was "Outraged at the Outrage". He has to be the most ignorant member of the Senate.
