Cheney: "The most common myth is that Iraq has nothing to do with the global war on terror"

http://newsblogs.chicagotribune.com/news_theswamp/2007/03/cheney_the_myth.html#more

<snip>

“The most common myth is that Iraq has nothing to do with the global war on terror. Opponents of our military action there have called Iraq a diversion from the real conflict, a distraction from the business of fighting and defeating bin Laden and al Qaeda…

“Obviously, the terrorists have no illusion about the importance of the struggle in Iraq. They have not called it a distraction or a diversion from their war against the United States. They know it is a central front in that war, and it's where they've chosen to make a stand…

“The second myth is the most transparent -- and that is the notion that one can support the troops without giving them the tools and reinforcements they need to carry out their mission.

...

“There is a third myth about the war on terror, and this is one that is perhaps the most dangerous. Some apparently believe that getting out of Iraq before the job is done will strengthen America's hand in the fight against the terrorists. This myth is dangerous because it represents a complete validation of the al Qaeda strategy. The terrorists do not expect to be able to beat us in a stand-up fight. They never have, and they're not likely to try. The only way they can win is if we lose our nerve and abandon the mission -- and the terrorists do believe that they can force that outcome…

“That leads me to the fourth, and the cruelest, myth -- and that is the false hope that we can abandon the effort in Iraq without serious consequences to our interests in the broader Middle East. The reality is that, if our coalition withdrew before Iraqis could defend themselves, radical factions would battle for dominance in that country. The violence would spread throughout the country, and be very difficult to contain…

8. I got some myths of my own
Myth one - if you kill enough Iraqis the Iraqis will realize how much they love you. Let's kill them into loving us.

Myth two - killing terrorists does not create new terrorists, particularly if you do it in bloodthirsty brutal ways. So all we have to do is kill all the terrorists and there will be no more terrorism. Except of course those people we piss off while killing the terrorists.

16. Use that little X thingie on the posts. I've been gettng a lot of use out of that function lately.
With all the Freepers and their Edwards bashing or Clinton bashing, and the various "Yea, Anna Nicole Smith is dead" hate bullshit, that little X thingie is a wonderful tool.

11. My favorite Cheney myth:
"Anyone who opposes U.S. policies for whatever reason, and either takes up arms to oppose an illegal occupation or supports same is a 'terrorist' and accordingly may be dispatched with abandon."

12. Shouldn't he retire and let someone who is still alive do his job?
I mean, if the Repubs are all upset with John Edwards for still running, shouldn't they be even more upset that Cheney is still employed? He can't do the job, he can barely stand, his mind is clearly trapped in a pre-2006 mindset, and I don't think he even knows that the people have thouroughly rejected his party. For his own sake, shouldn't the Republicans be screaming for his retirement?

22. we who live in "reality" believe that, but there are those
who if you keep on repeating and repeating lies they will begin to believe those lies. Now that is what you call psychological brainwashing.

14. Cheney lies, and even Rupubs know that. He is only preaching to the choir.
I think the only reason he opens his mouth is to keep the rabid base of about 20% all whipped up. Like the rabid supporters who wouldn't believe it if they saw videotape of him commiting a crime.

As we saw on the streets of DC last week, those are the folks that will cause chaos here at home when we try to take back our country. So sad.

15. It wasn't that way until we
made it so. We made Iraq a terrorist haven when it wasn't before we invaded. It seems to be no myth that that was their plan, to create an endless war, a 'war on terrorim' to replace the cold war. They needed the business and thus created the market for it.

29. "....our interests in the broader Middle East." - by "our interests",
he is, of course, referring to himself as a representative of the humongous war profiteering global corporations that are using We the People, and all our resources, as a global police/security institution in the service of their private economic interests.

Now however the place is a veritable breeding and gathering spot for terrorists. It's a good place to come because chaos now reigns. It is also a great new breeding field for new terrorists who are raised and educated to hate the invading infidels (that is to say us).
