6. You can make your own, very easily
if you can find some "safe" peanuts:)

How to make peanut butter at home.

Store bought peanut butter is high on salt and contains added saturated fats, which are not good for you.

Here's a really quick and easy recipe to make peanut butter at home.

Ingredients: 1 cup of peanuts, 1 teaspoon oil (you can use peanut oil or any other vegetable oil that doesn't have a strong fragrance) and a pinch of salt. Take roasted, unsalted peanuts.

If you are making this for the first time, go for ones that are already roasted and shelled. Later, when you are more experienced, you can shell the peanuts at home and roast them in the oven.

Leave the red skin on if you like the taste. Now put the peanuts in the food processor.

Add the oil and the salt. Start the food processor.

Check after a minute or so. If you like chunks of peanuts in the butter, don't grind it for too long. But if you prefer a smooth paste, then grind them longer till its smooth. If the butter seems too thick, add some more oil to it.

There- your homemade peanut butter is ready to eat. You can store it to eat later as well. Enjoy your treat and let me know how it turned out!

http://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/peanutbutterrecall/index.cfm#PeanutButter

Did you know this is the first result i get when you Google "peanut butter recalled brands"?

I realize that the DU is a place where everybody thinks that they are right....

but Next Time you Decide That YOU KNOW BEST.

Maybe...just maybe

You should do a humble Google search or check the official government sites before

giving out information that THREATENS PEOPLE'S LIVES.

18. Parnell's Pride is not a nationally known brand.
You'll notice there is no Jiff, Skippy, Peter Pan or Smuckers on that list.

All the items on that list are local or store brands (generic brands)

and shipped to all the manufacturers of the junk.

Show me another national peanut butter brand on any FDA list. Show me JIF, SKIPPY, or PETER PAN recalls!

10. There's a sign at my King Soopers (Kroger)
Standing by their own Kroger Brand, it says that they make all their own peanut butter and are not affected by the recall. So I got a jar of the reduced fat peanut butter. We're fine.

There are Kroger stores in Pennsylvania & Virginia.

12. There is nothing wrong with Skippy and it is not supplied by the peanut manufacturer...
Where the tainted peanut butter came from. CNN just did a report yesterday, saying that other unrelated manufacturers are getting hit really hard by people avoiding peanut butter. Skippy was on the list that has nothing wrong with it and does not come from the peanut factory in question. I paid attention, because Skippy is what I always eat.

13. We have been told that only institutional buyers have any exposure to the bad peanut butter.
Grocery shelf Skippy is still safe (if you get the "Natural" style without transfats or corn syrup--heh--just editorializing. )

19. The TX plant just started their recall today and it involves 100 companies
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/business/6262534.html

DALLAS — Companies that received peanut products from a West Texas plant where a filth-infested crawl space was discovered began destroying their products Friday to comply with a recall.

The recall could eventually involve more than 100 companies that ordered peanut products from the Plainview plant, which is owned by the Peanut Corp. of America, a company at the center of a national salmonella outbreak. Peanut Corp. filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection Friday in Virginia, where it is based.

Texas health officials ordered the recall Thursday after discovering dead rodents, feces and feathers in a crawl space above a production area at the plant. Officials have said an air-handling system sucked debris from the crawl space into an area where peanuts are processed.

Several phone calls to the Peanut Corp. by The Associated Press went unanswered Friday. A company official did not immediately respond to an e-mail request for comment.

Initial lab tests this week showed possible salmonella contamination at the Texas plant, but further testing will be needed to confirm the results, health officials said. The recall order is not contingent on finding salmonella.

The recall involves all peanut products since the plant opened in March 2005.

21. Adams Natural Peanut Butter is not on the recall list and they have this message on their site:
"Our Adams® peanut butter brand and peanut butter products are safe for consumption.

The J. M. Smucker Company does not purchase peanuts or any ingredients from Peanut Corporation of America and our products are not part of any recall.

Ongoing and regular product testing is a key part of our stringent quality assurance program and includes testing for salmonella.

We focus our efforts solely on production of our branded peanut butter products and we do not produce peanut butters or peanut butter products for other companies.

You can continue to trust in our commitment to safety and quality."

23. It's not the peanut butter that's affected
Edited on Fri Feb-13-09 05:08 PM by JSK
It's the peanut paste crap they put into other foods, like cookies, cakes, etc.

on edit: Looks like I am wrong; should have read all the posts first. Dr. Nancy Snyderman on the Today Show was wrong too.

Peanut Butter is OK. Yet, the mfgs. & stores have lost a lot of money because people have stopped buying Peanut Butter.

29. The actual jars of PB are safe except for some crap called "King," and cookies, brownies, and
other stuff.

The major brands like Laura Scudders, Skippy, Jiff have never even been implicated.

You can always play it safe and go organic.
