15. FDR was still a piddling 3-termer when I was born (Oct '44).
It never before occurred to me to blame my conception on him.

17. He did not repeal prohibition. It took an amendment to
the Consititution to do that. The XXI Amendment repealing the XVIII amendment was introduced into Congress Feb 20 1933.

He drops a few spots on my greatest list based on that.

10. This isn't about drug policy
This was something that was unconstitutional. It violated the fifth amendment because in order to obtain the tax or license you would have to have marijuana but having marijuana incriminated a person that didn't have the tax stamp.

7. Can't wait for one to suggest he only kept getting re-elected due to ACORN
and that's why someone had to put term limits into the Constitution.

Even worse than if one of them said it is how many would still believe it's true.

11. Is he also insisting that Herbert Hoover was a Progressive?
I heard some clowns on Faux News make that claim -- that HH may have been a Republican, but he wasn't a good Conservative!!!

Too bad this guy wasn't around at the time to let people know The New Deal wasn't working. It would have saved a whole lot of people from voting for FDR over and over and over...

19. I toured Herbert Hoover's library in Iowa last spring
according to what I learned there, Hoover went to his grave slamming the New Deal and feeling smug that he had outlived all the New Dealers. Sounds like a typical Republican to me.

And, I agree with you it's too bad this buy wasn't around in the 30s - my grandpa wouldn't wasted his time taking that PWA (yes, PWA not WPA) job and my uncle could have skipped his time in the CCC (of course then he wouldn't have been able to take what he learned there to run a very successful business).

I swear, my mom and her sisters are all going to have strokes if these clowns don't stop dissing FDR. Do they think no one is left who can remember the Depression?

27. My dad was also an "alum" of the CCC
He was always very proud of that chapter of his life, as are his children. It was a great opportunity and a big adventure for a young man, what with being sent to work on projects in Washington State, his first time outside his home state of Illinois.

The museum at Virginia's famous Skyline Drive (along the Shenendoah Valley) devotes a good bit of space to the CCC workers who helped build the roads, the pathways, and the beautiful little stone walls all along the roadway that keep tourists from falling down the mountains. All that was government spending that put people to work in dire times and left a legacy that has served a national treasure and its millions of visitor for generations... exactly what we need these days!

28. My dad, born in 1911, was also in the CCC. I believe he was a
Sergeant.

I have NO idea what he did. He didn't talk about it much.

I see a lot of CCC work here in NW Arkansas. They were busy, thank FDR!

13. What part of our Social Security did not worK???? Remember
Regan took money from SS and left IOUs in place. Congress(Both
houses) have swiped from SS Fund over the years.

SS works fine and Americans appreciate it.

Social Security has worked just fine. Dishonest Leaders have
done everything they can to get rid of SS Medicare Medicaid--any
form of Safety Net.

FDR saved Capitalism and also saved Democracy and no Democrat should
ever forget it.

26. They have calculated that enough people who lived
through the Great Depression are now dead that it can be safely forgotten and history re-written.

They trot out the same discredited, flawed reasoning from the usual right-wing (and ironically misnamed) "Think Tanks", label anything that might work "Socialism" and hope that something sticks to the wall.
