You thought Judd Gregg was a bad choice? Get this:
From NBC's Chuck Todd

"Harold Ford Jr. for Commerce Secretary? It's something a few Democrats around town are pushing and, according to sources, the idea of appointing the former Tennessee Congressman is being given serious thought by folks high up in the Obama administration....."

1. Why does it have to be a politician.
Edited on Fri Feb-13-09 07:02 PM by notadmblnd
aren't there people with PHD's in commerce that are qualified and not involved in politics? This is why nothing in DC ever changes. They have the same few dozen people playing musical chairs with positions. The only thing that ever changes, is the seats these people sit in.

At least for me

Yeah yeah yeah, you drive a truck and you want me to take that back

Trust me, if you're on DU, you are NOT a good ol' boy, no matter how you spin it

25. My father-in-law was hurt in an accident...
...and died Saturday. At the funeral, I heard a few laments about what a good ole boy he was. "Do anything to help someone out". That's true. One of the most honest men I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. What he was not, was a moron. And he, like myself, drove a truck. It's the most practical vehicle to own if you're in the construction business. I live in Arkansas, and believe me, the term "good ole boy" can mean two things, depending upon the context it is spoken in. So you're equation could be percieved as half-right, but no matter how you spin it, it's still wrong. Thanks.

26. Your dad was just GOOD
My whole thing about trucks is that there are a lot of intelligent, wonderful people here who self identify themselves as rednecks. To me, nothing could be further from the truth. But our meanings of redneck are different. For me, a redneck means close minded, provincial and hateful. Basically your average Freeper. That is how it is understood among my friends and my peers. However here, I must temper that. So Good ol' Boys has filled in comparison.

11. Chuck Todd talks to Harold all the time on MSNBC....anyone think
Edited on Fri Feb-13-09 07:12 PM by Ichingcarpenter
the story might come from both of them? Chuckie needs
to make his creds for his bosses and Harold is just being Harold.

They are even on the same programs at the same time.
Chuckie hasn't had a news scoop and just complained today
that he was the new kid and feels left out of the loop with white house.

15. No, I thought Judd Gregg was a brilliant choice. Harold Ford would be something of an "eh" choice,
Edited on Fri Feb-13-09 07:17 PM by Occam Bandage
as would pretty much anyone else. Doesn't mean much either way. Commerce is a bureaucratic/administrative post that can make few, if any, meaningful decisions. The only real uses of Commerce would be to reward a supporter, take a politician out of their current post, put a critic under your thumb, or bring in a new ally and his network. Pretty much anyone you pick would be one of those, so I don't really care.

destroy the entire nation refusing to realize their Dogma is the cause of all this mess... over 40% of home owners are at risk of losing their homes. we cant get any help because our home devalued below the mortgage.. we lost $30,000, 20% on a home we should have made $20,000 over what we paid for it for all the sweat equity we put into it.. we may foreclose in may when my wifes job goes to china. we'll have to move again, 4th outsourse in 8 years, i'll lose my union job here. she makes more than twice what i do in Aerospace.. she is still in demand, people call her asking if she wants jobs

i was just released by the doctor from an amputation surgery, trying to figure out what lawyer to get.. i don't trust any of them, i thought the union would release their accident lawyers list.. no luck.. the case would definately litigate beyond what time we have left anyway. wouldn't save us from losing our home.
