Justice has been on vacation for eight long years. It needs to be restored.
People For the American Way is launching a Campaign to Restore Justice. That means restoring checks and balances, accountability, transparency and the rule of law -- some of our most fundamental constitutional values that have been stepped on and undermined by the previous administration.

Sign on to our three-point petition to congressional leaders to be one of the first people to endorse this campaign.

1. Thoroughly investigate what happened in the Bush administration so that abuses of the past are not repeated. Rep. John Conyers has introduced H.R. 104 to establish the National Commission on Presidential War Powers and Civil Liberties, which is a sound approach to finding out the full extent of what went wrong and how it happened. People For the American Way supports H.R. 104 and similar efforts aimed at fact finding and accountability beyond the civil liberties context, such as the investigation into the U.S. Attorneys scandal.

2. Ensure that official investigations of Bush administration wrongdoing go forward unobstructed. While we support the appointment of special prosecutors and DOJ probes into past wrongdoing, congressional investigations are equally important. Congressional subpoenas must be obeyed and anyone called on to provide information (including Karl Rove) should be compelled to testify or face the consequences.

3. Hold wrongdoers accountable for their actions. Those who broke the law should face appropriate prosecution.

People For the American Way will put its resources behind making sure each of these things happens, and happens as soon as possible. But our most important resource is you.

So please join these efforts: add your name to the campaign.

There is no restoring justice without restoring checks and balances, and that means, in addition to establishing congressional oversight and enforcement, that we must be sure to confirm progressive legal leaders to defend our constitutional values in the courts and at the Justice Department. Ensuring such confirmations will also be a major part of this campaign. But you can join the campaign right now by urging leaders in Congress to use their subpoena and legislative power to Restore Justice.

Please sign the petition and then tell all your friends about People For the American Way's Campaign to Restore Justice. http://site.pfaw.org/site/PageServer?pagename=homepagenew

Campaign to Restore Justice

P.S. These three steps are just the beginning. The Restore Justice Campaign will involve pushing for many more remedies from Congress as well as the executive and judicial branches. For now, let us -- and Congress -- know that you're on board by signing the three-point petition.
