Planned Parethood has received $1,000,000 in Sarah Palin's name! She has
received over 46,000 postcards from PP stating people have donated in her honor. I love it!!!!!

3. It's an AP story. Here's a link:
Planned Parenthood wasn't behind the effort, but the e-mails asking for donations spread rapidly in September and October and ended up generating more than $1 million for the organization nationwide, said Clover Simon, Alaska vice president of Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest.

9. Thanks for the link
And evidently Alaskans donated a lot. How did this woman get elected? Did no one vote except her family?

Here's an excerpt from the article:

"The money went to the Planned Parenthood branch located in the same ZIP code as the giver. The Alaska branch took in about $5,000, Simon said. People who donated could then have the organization send Palin a card announcing it."

16. $5,000 doesn't sound like that much to me, but it does show she has opposition in her home state.
Most likely, she got elected by showing her legs, wearing wedge-heeled, open-toed sandals with business attire (gross!) and bullshitting people. Dumbasses like her give real, smart, working women a bad name.

5. Wonder how much other groups are getting?
"'I have boxes of thank-you notes from people associated with Planned Parenthood thanking me for the donations. Same with some anti-hunting groups, they're doing the same thing right now. It's political theater – it's great theater I guess for some,' Palin said."

Hope they rack up millions, too.

7. Same thing happened after Bush's first tax cut
April 2001, thousands of people donated their $300 tax cut to Planned Parenthood in the name of George W. Bush. The White House got buried under thank-you notes from PP for the donations.

One of my favorite moments of activism in the last 10 years.

12. Many, many years ago, we bought an asshole client a $1000 membership in NOW
My two business partners are women. This particular client was not only a whack-job fundie who prayed before every meeting, he hated women. One of my partners had started the job with him but very quickly said it might be best if we swapped me into the job for her (we have no problem with this ... not everyone gets along with everyone else and if a personnel change will save a client, that's good for us so we do it).

So I take the job. In the meeting I attend with my partner to effect the handover, he was downright insulting to her and to women in general. I got by but his anti-woman antics escalated to the point where I found it intolerable.

We agreed to simply fire him. Life is too short to work for assholes.

But, it turns out, they owe us money. About $12,000. And they needed something from us. We lied. We said we would do it after they paid us the $12K they owed. A month or so later we get a check for $9K and a note asking if that would be enough to get us started again.

No way, pallie. Pay up.

We get the final $3,000. We cash the check. It clears.

We write two letters.

One to him, saying his services as a cleint are no longer required.

One to N.O.W. with a copy to him making a $1,000 donation in his name. We cited his enthusastic stances on women's issues.

A few months later I get a letter from him. He tells me that if I have managed to "get out from under the influence of those women who were my partners" he'd be happy to have me work for him again.

As if ...........

This Palin thing reminded me of that ..........

14. Wasn't it a DUer that had this idea and got the ball rolling?
I'm pretty sure it was but I can't remember who. It was a really awesome idea enthusiastically embraced here. I had no idea it yielded such incredible results! This is sooooo cool!
