Police who arrested a 60-year-old grandmother on drug charges this week say they found the ingredients for thousands of doses of "cheese" heroin in her home, and they suspect that the drugs were destined for sale in Dallas.


Barbara Sims "It was a manufacturing operation," Rowlett police Lt. David Nabors said. "We found no indication it was being sold in our city. It was to be distributed in Dallas."

Dozens of teens and young adults have died as a result of cheese heroin use in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since the lethal mix was first reported on Dallas public school campuses in 2005.

Police said the drugs seized from Sims' home were a record for the city and included 9 ounces of a substance that field-tested positive for heroin and 3,343 capsules containing what appeared to be ground heroin mixed with an over-the-counter sleep aid. Also seized were four luxury cars – a Rolls-Royce, a Mercedes-Benz, a Jaguar and a Cadillac Escalade – and several loaded guns.

Cheese is formed by combining heroin with crushed tablets of certain over-the-counter cold medication, such as Tylenol PM. Such cold medications contain acetaminophen, the active ingredient in Tylenol, and the antihistamine diphenhydramine, the active ingredient in Benadryl.<2> Cheese samples obtained in north Dallas contained between 2% and 8% heroin, in contrast to the 30% commonly found in black tar heroin.<3><4> Users commonly take the powder by insufflation rather than by intravenous injection.

It's not working cuz they are using have recreational drugs in parentheses and when you post it here, it takes you to a Wiki entry on real cheese because, I assume, it doesn't recognize the part of the link after the parentheses..tried it taking out the parentheses and it still doesn't work. Didn'think anyone would go to it if I used the "tiny url" thing to make it work.

DALLAS, Texas (CNN) -- A cheap, highly addictive drug known as "cheese heroin" has killed 21 teenagers in the Dallas area over the past two years, and authorities say they are hoping they can stop the fad before it spreads across the nation.

"Cheese heroin" is a blend of so-called black tar Mexican heroin and crushed over-the-counter medications that contain the antihistamine diphenhydramine, found in products such as Tylenol PM, police say. The sedative effects of the heroin and the nighttime sleep aids make for a deadly brew.

"A double whammy -- you're getting two downers at once," says Dallas police detective Monty Moncibais. "If you take the body and you start slowing everything down, everything inside your body, eventually you're going to slow down the heart until it stops and, when it stops, you're dead."

Steve Robertson, a special agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration in Washington, says authorities are closely monitoring the use of "cheese" in Dallas.
