So, the biggest wingnut in the state of Wisconsin no longer supports Bush.

For at least the last three years, along the south side of I-94 about fifteen miles from the St. Croix river, some poor, dumb Wisconsin farmer has had a big, crudely-lettered, handpainted sign up on his property, facing the highway and adorned with a big American flag. The sign says "God Bless America" and "Support Our Troops" on two of its three sides. On the widest panel, directly facing the highway and visible for a mile or so in either direction, it used to say: "We Support President Bush." Well, I was driving out to Minneapolis the other day and guess what? Instead of "We Support President Bush," the sign now says "Peace Through Military Strength." Equally wingnutty in its own way, but a hell of a commentary if you happen to know what the message was originally. You've got to think that if Bush has even lost the biggest wingnut in the state of Wisconsin (a largely rural state in which wingnuts are as common as dairy cattle), he is well and truly screwed. Can impeachment be far behind?

4. There is a barn on I-94 near the Illinois border that used to get a fresh
sign (Vote Republican) every four years. They haven't painted it in forever. :hi:

9. I know...but it looks awfully crappy these days. The guy that lived

5. Thank you for that...
I hope there will come a day in which Republicans feel proud and loyal in their determination to eliminate a president who is a national embarrassment.

7. I have a friend who is a very conservative, fundy, etc. He no longer supports Bush either
He's mostly upset about the way Bush has turned into a big spending politician and how he's driven up the deficit

10. I'm not sure what that proves
especially since this person doesn't have a vote on impeachment. Actually in WI Bush's approval ratings have been in the 30's for quite some time--and while there are right wingers we also have one of the most ferocious anti-war Senators, Russ Feingold (along with Kohl who is more moderate, but certainnly no Lieberman) and a Democratic Governor.

11. It doesn't "prove" anything.
But it seemed interesting anecdoatally, as a demonstration of Bush's estrangement from conservatives--even his most die-hard supporters can't stand him anymore. Which means that Republicans in congress have very little cover for voting not to impeach at this point, even if they come from very red districts.

12. I recently drove through Reddest North Carolina
Highway 70 from Raleigh to the coast - right through military bases and retirement communities. I saw plenty of the usual right-wing billboards, stickers, vanity plates, and so forth supporting the Troops, God, and Country. The absence of Bush/Cheney stickers was remarkable. Last time I drove this route the place was awash in W stickers. Hardly any at all now.
