She gives common-sense advice such as pay your bills, get an emergency savings account, and avoid credit debt.

I like her. I think she's doing her best to help others. She gets paid for it, yes, but on the whole, I'd much rather listen to what she has to say. She's been in $50,000 worth of debt before and managed to get herself out of it. She can relate to those who've done stupid things with money, as opposed to those who sit in their ivory towers and tell the rest of us they know everything.

23. There's no doubt that there seems to be a preference for mellifluous male voices in media.

It's also true that women with mellifluous voices are more likely to be in media than those without such a voice.
There are exceptions (Chris Matthews for one, Orman for another)and there's almost certainly more men who have made it in media in spite of their grating voices. That doesn't mean that I need to listen to them or that it's an unfair gender-biased criticism.

Now the women mentioned in your earlier reply aren't in a business where their voices should matter, but we know that they are rated on how they sound, how they look, etc. to a much greater degree than male politicians.

Women also are permitted only three accents: no accent, southern accent, English accent.

The only women who are permitted to talk in any other way are lesbians or cops.

Women's voices are preferred when a soothing voice is needed. That's why GPS systems use them, etc.

She assumes everyone has loads of cash to invest, put into a 401K and set aside 9-12 months of salary "just in case." It's as if she's never heard of someone living paycheck to paycheck.

9. That's pretty much spot-on for most financial "gurus".

They're very over-assumptive and rely on pie-in-the-sky in order for most of their plans to work. If everyone doesn't have at least 6 months cash saved for emergencies, at least 100,000 bucks in a portfolio by the time we're 40 and our kid's college education moolah in a savings account, then darn it, WHY AREN'T WE?

Uh, because the cost of living is going UP while the cost of labor is going DOWN?? Because life comes readily equipped with these little things called "financial setbacks", "job losses", "accidents", "major illnesses" or "bad breaks" that often gobble up what little we had and worked so hard to save?

just look at me with a glazed-over look and try to figure out what language I was speaking.

I don't dislike her, I'm sure she's a very nice person but she is just annoying. Especially in the way you describe, how she assumes everyone has money to just throw around and invest. Her advice is useless if you're living paycheck to paycheck or if you don't have extra money lying around. Her advice is no better than the advice you get at CNBC.

financial advisor for the "Average American" but she's anything but that! MSNBC, CNN, et al put her on so she can give advice to all their viewers but only a small percentage of their viewers can actually take advantage of that advice.

21. Major contradictions within the same interview

The last time I saw her on tv, it might have been Larry King, she contradicted herself several times. The one that stands out the most was when she insisted that at-risk homeowners had to live by their commitments to the bank, while the bankers (and various wealthy) needed assistance because they were forced to live below what they were accustomed to.
