Dems all talk - no action! why no subpeona for Rove yet as * runs out the clock?
It was satisfying when the Dem's won in November but now there seems to be nothing but dialog with this corrupt administration.

The Dem's have subpeona power and they choose to be diplomatic with the most crooked administration in history! Bush only understands pressure when he's under the gun which is where he should be, yes/no?

1. Yeah, they're proving to be one hell of a disappointment. I don't
really understand why the hell they think they got elected.

3. Perchance they are building a case in the court of public opinion??
does seem that slowly and methodically more and more information is coming out and the response thus far from the RW talking heads hasn't stopped anything or turned the situation around....

6. building a case in the court of public opinion? - If subpeona's were served the Dem's
could advance on the next step. The public majority are convinced that Rove runs Bush's ideals while hiding behind him. We need Rove to step up to the plate and explain and enlighten the American people on his role in Plamegate and the attorney8gate.

19. I'm willing to let the White House stew in the scandals for another couple of weeks.
Think back over the past few weeks, and what's come out about the corruption in this administration - Walter Reed, the USA purge, the 'soft-pedaling' of the case against tobacco companies, the RNC email servers, and today reports that the GSA has been politicized.

You gotta wonder what's next. And if the news keeps breaking the way it has for another couple of weeks, you may see some Republicans joining in the call for the White House to honor the subpoenas, when they are finally issued.

Leahy's a former prosecutor. He knows what he's doing. He's letting the 'drip, drip, drip' of Bush scandal set the stage for when the subpoenas are finally issued.

Remember that Fitz took his time, too. Patience is a virtue.

that sprung up from within the rotting corpse of American democracy

is in a holding pattern until 2008.

but on what possible basis could we believe that 2008 will bring any real change? The repukes are all criminals. The leading democratic candidates are all more of the same corporate-owned "centrist" preserve-the-status-quo dems.

9. The Bushies are going to fight it. It'll probably take months if not years
to go through the courts and ultimately to the Supreme Court.

So, if we refuse to compromise and issue subpoenas now it is only to show the public that Democrats are serious about wanting to investigate. This might be a nice PR move but will not lead to any results any time soon.

11. The Bushies are going to fight it? - why aren't the Dem's responding in full force and get on with
it - it surely won't be counter-productive as long as it reveals the corruption and lie's this administration has always been about. - Bush hires a man who has never in his lifetime prosecuted a case in court to be the attorney general must now be blamed for the problems the US. is now experiencing.

Sorry no more; "heck of a job Gonzo" days are long passed!

17. You do know how the system works?! They'll claim "executive privilege"
what do you mean with "full force and get on with it"?
------------
The Chicago Tribune had a nice piece on the subpoena of Rove etc:

6 In one recent case that did go to the Supreme Court, the court sided with the administration in its refusal to disclose records from Vice President Dick Cheney's energy task force. Critics had sought information about the task force to determine whether it was influenced by energy executives.

7 If subpoenas are issued in the U.S. attorney scandal and the White House refuses to abide by them, the next step could be for Congress to cite, say, Rove, for contempt of Congress. Who would prosecute such a case? The Department of Justice, where the controversy began.

8 For all his power and influence in the Bush administration, as well as his crucial role in decision-making, Rove has never testified before Congress.

There will be either a compromise or a long drawn-out court battle. If they want to, the Bushie's will take it all the way to the Supreme Court and we have to wait until they decide the case.

ISSUE THE FUCKING SUBPOENAS NOW! I am so tired of hearing, "Let them get their ducks in a row". Their ducks ARE in a row BIGTIME! Jesus Christ! Blatant evidence is all over here in DU. There is proof of many crimes right now. NO MORE GD DUCKS ARE NEEDED!

12. It is my understanding that negotiation with the executive
branch, strengthens the subpoenas when they are issued. There's ample precedent for that. When the WH proves incalcitrant, and refuses any compromise, that's when they'll issue the subpoenas.

Leahy and Conyers know what they're doing; building a strong case. My guess is that they'll issue the subpoenas right after Easter.

18. Bunch of whiners - I'd rather the dems be focused and precise
than just willy nilly serve subpoenas - the repukes have had since '94 to wreck havoc, it's only March of a year when dems are the majority (ever slight in one chamber) - give it time folks.

Go read up on Watergate, that didn't happen overnight you know.

20. If this were July or August
Then I would probably be screaming at them too, but, it's March and Easter break coming soon, they're not going anywhere, and the mess will smell worse the longer it sits. I agree let's let them do their job right, it's very important to do this correctly, not fast.

Edited on Mon Mar-26-07 02:30 PM by merh
have to convince their fellow congress critters, first the dems and then, more importantly, the repubs - impeachment without a huge majority of votes favoring the hearing and the investigations is just a waste of time and tax payer money.

Have to have 'em by their short hairs with no escape in sight so that their power is reduced and their threats and promises are reduced to mere nervous and frightened air.
