so I'm flying to Reno tomorrow. will the TSA freak out if I have stainless cookware in my luggage?

As long as it's in your checked luggage you'll be fine. Wrap them to keep them from rattling and from coming loose in your suitcase. Kitchen knives are not on the prohibited items list for checked luggage.

Don't even try to take them in carry-on although I'm sure that you realize that.

Technically you should have no problem with those items in your carry-on but expect to get your bag hand checked at security. If it was me I'd just check the bag to save the hassle with security.

but if there is a limit of weight you're allowed without being charged extra, it might be costly to take with you.

Why go through that hassle at the checkpoint? You are going to get stopped and you are going to stop everyone else in line while they figure out what to do with your exploding saucepans.

21. You can carry these on, but to be kind, tell them that you're packing pots and lids.

Put them on the top of everything, better still unpack them and place in a tray the way one would a laptop before sending through the scanner.

This will save them the effort of stopping the belt, looking bewilderingly at the screen, generally holding up the whole show to have you unload your case and show them.

That's my advice if you don't end up checking them.

lucky for me they are small airports on both ends and only one stop with no having to go through security on the lay over as it is in the same concourse

I have brought pots and pans in luggage before, never had any problem with it.
I'd check it, mostly because you'll get through security faster, and the stuff is heavy.
