Poll question: Do you believe other candidates will be joining the 08 Presidential race?
Edited on Mon Mar-26-07 01:23 PM by RiverStone
With the 08 Presidential race getting off to an unprecedented early start, I've heard a variety of political pundits say recently that by the time we get to the Fall, many voters will be worn out with the top tier of candidates. For both major parties, a late entry in the Fall could be less risky then many assume; in fact, it may be downright advantageous. By then, people will be so tired of the infighting; that a fresh face will be a welcome and exciting alternative.

For the DEMS, that could be Gore or Clark - for the rethugs, Gingrich or Hagel.

QUESTION: Do you believe other candidates are yet to enter the Presidential race?

1. Possibly Gore
And, as of late, possibly Bloomberg.

2. If there were room for more candidates, Kerry, Bayh, Warner, and Feingold
would not have dropped out. This is it.

3. Al Gore is the wild card.
He won't say, "I will not run."

He keeps saying that he "currently has no plans to run."

The first statement is definitive. It leaves no room for question. The latter is more vague.

9. Yet many DUers cannot understand the difference.
How is it people cannot grasp this simple difference between "I'm not running right now" and "I won't ever run"?

When Gore refused to run in 2004, he was much more definitive and gave a clear answer. Not so this time.

4. I'm starting to disbelieve that we'll see any more Democratic candidates, but I think Hagel and mayb
Newt will run (although, frankly, the situation with Elizabeth Edwards's cancer so obviously demands comparison to Newt's bed-side betrayal of his cancer-stricken wife that I think Newt will probably take a pass because of his inability to answer this very question).

5. I reckon so.
Probably a small handful on both sides.

I expect some serious third party flank action later in the 2008 season, also on both sides.

7. it would surprise me if more candidates didn't join the race!
on the Republican side Fred Thompson, Newt Gingrich and Hagel..for Democrats Gore, Clark, and Feingold.

and now even Bloomberg might run as an independent. 2008 will be a fascinating race to watch!

11. I hope your right!
And in particular on the DEM side - I'd be thrilled with Gore or Clark.

In fact, with all the fuss about Hillary's huge fund-raising creating an unsurmountable advantage - I really believe Al Gore could raise more millions in the weekend after he announced then Hillary does in a month.

The tidal wave of funding support for Al would also be unprecedented (matching days running per dollars donated)!

Fred Thompson for President?!?

He's all dried up as an actor - even Saint Reagan came across as more sincere than this old coot.

But people are still saying ... Fred Thompson for President. Too damn funny! :P

10. Gingrich I think will get into it
He's a conservatives conservative, and he would get the base excited.

13. Honestly, I'm not sure there's room for anyone
else on the Dem side, as others have said--the top four pretty much have it covered. On the 'Pug side, maybe Thompson or Gingrich, but they're not going to be able to displace Rudy McRomney, no matter how much the "true conservatives" want a savior. I think Hagel will run as an Independent, maybe with Bloomberg (for funding!).
