I remember when Andy was very ill, he went and conducted a seminar on election reform and I know it did him a world of good to be doing something NORMAL.

7. Welcome to DU! Here's my response to this false issue:

If any President wakes up one morning to discover that his/her spouse has been diagnosed with cancer, is he or she supposed to resign from office? This tragedy could befall anyone, anywhere and when it does, life goes on. This is an issue that farmers, druggists, teachers, bankers, doctors, lawyers, construction workers, busboys, waitresses, and even politicians must confront every day. As callous as it may sound, this is an instance of "walking and chewing gum at the same time" - something we must demand of any future President. I think that the Edwards' are handling this terrible situation as well as anyone I have seen or heard of, and I wish them the very best. But facing tragedy and dealing with it in a hopeful, courageous way is exactly the way I hope that I would behave. This is an awful family ordeal that the Edwards are going through, but it is not a campaign issue.
