Did anyone watch this weekend? The “discussion” was nothing short of stunning for its mendacity and dutiful recital of GOP/White House talking points. I won’t go into all of the sick details, but the essential message was this:

Democratic law makers should think twice about engaging in a political witchunt against the administration. After all, the USA’s serve at the pleasure of the president.

There was no mention of the hard evidence of White House lies and undeniable political interference into the exercise of law. The White House, whose record of corruption and massive incompetence, was given the full benefit of the doubt. This was truly Orwellian performance by Matthews and his guests. Evidence was completely ignored in favor of right wing spin.

I can’t believe this is happening in our country.

1. I watched the last half where it was said something like the Dems just want to get even after
not being in power. It was as if there was nothing done wrong just vindictiveness on the part of the Dems. No objectivity at all.

15. Oh, good grief...
IMO, the Repubs have NO room to talk about the Dems being vindictive. They're the ones with a whiny, petulant, spoiled brat of a "president" who acts more like a sleep-deprived four-year-old throwing a tantrum than an actual world leader, and his cronies who are willing to out a covert CIA agent just because of a personal grudge against said agent's spouse. And the Democrats are vindictive? I think not.

2. I don't understand how anyone can watch that crap.
It's terrible. And it's not just Matthews. The entire cable talk show circuit is like that. Hell, I have a lot of respect for the people who subject themselves to that crap and then report back to the rest of us. I couldn't stand it. Last time I watched one of those shows it was like having my brain bludgeoned with some sort of blunt object. It was an exercise in who could pander the most. Crap. Utter crap, regardless of its political leanings. For Jeebus' sake, human beings are supposed to think.

4. Glen Greenwald takes this show apart, piece by piece.
Here: http://www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2007/03/26/matthews/index.html

It is truly disgusting to see what's happened to real journalism today.

7. thank you, ginny! did you see his coverage of the equally, if not more, nauseating...
...love fest between Tony Snow, Richard Wolffe, David Gregory, and some other WH 'correspondents' (from radio, newspaper, etc) on CSPAN a few weeks ago?

Greenwald took that one apart, as well, going into some detail WRT Wolffe's abject support of this administration over the last few years.

5. amen. I saw that, too, and was INFURIATED! every single slug
Edited on Mon Mar-26-07 02:02 PM by Gabi Hayes
on the show>>Norah OD, Matthews, Richard Stengel, Gloria Borger, and some neotwad from the NYT all sat there, piling on Dems for daring to exercise their constitutional powers against an executive branch run criminally amok.

funny they didin't couch their discussion in the above terms, which is a much closer approximation to reality than that which they chose to present

I was truly STUNNED at what they said. this was by far the worst example of total media complicity that I've seen in recent memory...going back to the immediate post 911/war runup time frame, when you just didn't hear ANY dissenting POVs. We were all republicans back then, the "we" being the DLC dems, whose voices were just about the only ones hear, and, of course the vichy corporate media

but this is beating a dead horse. if ever it became more obvious who the real enemies of democracy are, I can't imagine a better example. the media are truly more dangerous than this administration, because they GLADLY do its bidding.

6. A definition of a fool
I heard during the '92 presidential campaign a definition of a fool as someone who does the same thing over and over and expects different results every time. That, to me, is a perfect description of a Democrat who watches Chris Matthews do anything except cut his own throat.
Tweety is not going to say anything good about Democrats, not when he has the expectation of more breaths. He is a wretched pos. He was the same thing yesterday, and will be again tomorrow.
He belongs on Fux. If anyone belongs on Fux, its him.

10. Easy there, chief. I wasn't expecting Matthews to speak the truth
I think it's important to be aware what is being said by the mainstream media.

You have no right to call me a fool. You don't know me.

14. I didn't mean it so harsh.
I don't watch Tweety, not since his trashing of Al Gore in the campaign of 2000.
There is a truth to what you say about knowing what the other side is saying. My problem is that I can't stomach them. I can't watch Tweety or chimpie, or almost any of the beltway whores. What they do I find illogical. I thought Clinton was a good President, but the whores would never think that, and that befuddles me. We look at the same events, but come to totally differents narratives for those events. I ask the question: Is there any other nation on this planet that is as poorly served by its national political press as the US is? I think the answer is no, but I also don't think it will change in the forseeable future. Tnank God for the blogs.

9. Matthews is a willing propaganda whore for the right wing.
It is obvious that the newest talking point by Rove that is somehow meant to plug the dike that is disintegrating around the Bushies is that the Democrats are the party of investigation. It is clearly a talking point given to all NBC operatives. Norah O'Donnell, Matthews and a few others have all started pushing that same bit of psyops. It seems to me that they are not even hiding it anymore.
