The RW Media Monopoly *Hearts* Eric Cantor!

It seems like every channel I watch or newspaper I read, there is a story or article celebrating Eric Cantor as the second coming of Newt Gingrich. Now, am I missing something?

First, does anyone in the media have an original thought or are they all simply reading off the same GOP issued set of talking points? CNN, NYT, MSNBC all did the exact same story comparing Eric Cantor to Newt, and noting how Newt lead a GOP takeover of the House. Is this just a coincidence that every media outlet has the exact same take?

Second, isn't Newt an unpopular dude, or is the RW media just trying to white wash how his brand of politics and embrace of trickle down economics and deregulation helped pave the way to the current economic crisis? In other words, each story portrays the asserted similarity between Newt and Eric Cantor as though this is a good thing. If such a comparison is being drawn, shouldn't all the negative aspects of Newt be noted?

Third, WTF did Eric Cantor do that was so great? He got the GOP to vote as a block against needed legislation. Isn't there any discussion of the advantages of the legislation? What about a discussion of how the GOP's tax cut only proposals simply repeat the failed Bush policies, and would also explode the debt.

I am sure we are due for another set of "liberal media" stories in order to cover up the corporate media's RW bias. However, am I the only one seeing how supposedly separate and independent news outlets simply regurgitate the same RW talking points.

In other words, for liberals to have a chance, we need to continue to point out the RW bias of the corporate media, and never leave unchalleged the lie that media has a "liberal, progressive" bias.

2. In Contrast, Notice The Media Stories Decrying The "Worship" Of Obama

This is just another example of the perpetuation of the liberal bias myth. In all of these stories about Eric Cantor, no one asked whether the media was displaying a RW bias in their fawning coverage of Eric Cantor. In contrast, the media sets up a strawman of Obama worship, then attacks it as an example of liberal media bias. Sadly, this is just the first month, yet the RW media is already on the attack.

Also, unlike Bush, who had Limbaugh/Fox to apologize for him 24/7, the progressive media is almost as harsh in attacks on Obama, as the RW media, under the guise of keeping Obama honest. The question is whether the progressive media is able to rally support around the President on issues such as the passage of the stimulus bill OR does proessive media get used by their RW corporate owners?

A good example is today's article by the LA Times, which is owned by the conservative Tribune, which states that liberals are increasingly disappointed in Obama. So, there you have it. A conservative publication telling us what liberals think:

The question is whether liberals and progressives will allow themselves to be manipulated by the corporate RW media.
