Randi Rhodes Speaks (Via Green960 AM)

The absence of La Rhodes from the airwaves has been abrupt and every drab of information only raises more questions than each answers.

The letter from Anita Drobny to listeners on the NovaM website has been posted far and wide. There have been other developments since, and the place to find out about them has been the blog on the website of San Francisco's Green960 AM (formerly known as The Quake, KQKE).

Not long after the NovaM announcment, Green960's PD, John Scott, made a posting including this verbiage:

We have influence with these networks, primarily because of our size. We are in American media market #4. We in the top big city markets get priority on some things, because we are valuable properties. Not that Alamosa, Iowa isn't important.... I think you get what I'm saying.

I have let the network know that I miss Randi, and I want her back. They agree. Don't hold me to it, but I'm guessing Monday. You'll hear back from me if it don't happen.

Today, John Scott posted a message ostensibly from Randi, which reads, in part:

I CAN TELL YOU THIS MUCH: YOU SHOULD NOT BELIEVE ANY STATEMENT IMPLICATING ME AS BEING IN ANY WAY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DISRUPTION IN THE RANDI RHODES SHOW. THERE IS NO TRUTH TO ANY SUCH MESSAGE. IN FACT, I DID EVERYTHING IN MY POWER TO HELP NOVA M MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR ME TO RETURN. IN LIGHT OF MOST RECENT DEVELOPMENTS, MY SHOW WILL BE SEEKING A NEW HOME. I WOULD ASK FOR YOUR CONTINUED PATIENCE AND INDULGENCE IN RESPECTING MY RIGHTS DURING THIS TIME. YOUR UNWAVERING SUPPORT IS CHERISHED. THANK YOU.

2. Neither of these messages tells the public what is going on.

I hope this gets straightened out. Randi has a big mouth, and a lot of talent.
She does seem to have a lot of problems no matter where she goes.

5. Randi's no longer with Nova M and she's off the air until she finds another gig.

Whether it's with WJNO in West Palm Beach (her former employer before AAR and the station she broadcasted from while with Nova M) and/or syndication.

Since legal issues are involved with whatever happened, Nova M says it's not able to say what happened and Randi likely won't until she has another gig nailed down.

Randi seems to have maintained a good relationship with her old station WJNO, where she worked for many years. "Wherever she went" after that was AAR and Nova M, both startups with their own issues.

3. Randi's statement was posted yesterday on Green960. I posted it in Media forum.

Scott's own announcement preceded Drobney's on the site, while negotiations were still ongoing. Drobney's announcement was made on Friday after whatever happened on "Wednesday night" happened and it wasn't a positive outcome.

As of this morning Randi's website and the message board, evidently both on Nova M's servers, are offline. RRMB URL now goes to Nova M's site.

And the RRMB has disappeared again. Not unexpected after the other shoe (Randi's statement) dropped on Sunday.

Monday, Presidents Day 2009

Look at my face. That's exactly how I feel at the moment. A bit bewildered, a bit pissed, a bit focused.

I do not know if Randi Rhodes is coming back. I have spoken to Program Directors and talk hosts around the country this past weekend, and this is what I came up with:

The network is in chaos, Randi is on the bench, and this might be it.

She is fighting with them over a contractual issue, and is apparently not coming back to Nova M unless they do some stuff for her. I am not assigning blame here, but the bottom line is: The show I made a deal with Nova M for is not available. And I may be prepared to move on, friends.

I am tired of this circular firing squad I have to stand in. While Rush and Hannity and Mark Levin and Hedgecock and Savage chug along, full steam ahead, I am surrounded by drama, inconsistency, miscommunication, ego and a trail of wreckage of some very very bad decisions made by the networks who supply the shows to affiliates like Green 960, one of a precious handful in the country who are truly dedicated to advancement of progressive radio in America.

I'm sick of it, and I bet you are too.

We are going to make some bold moves in the next few days. You may love some of them, you may hate it. But I want you to talk to me on this forum: The future of your station is in the balance, and I'm going to try and do right by you.

12. Nova M to file Bankruptcy

on 960's website they are reporting that NovaM is going bankrupt. And no one got paid for the past two weeks........
