Last night a friend and I happened upon a wonderful Brauerei along the Rhein River in a Köln suburb. Köln is the German capital of Karneval, and the restaurants and Brauerei are decorated and in a celebrating mood; it's easy to meet people, as we did last night. We asked a couple sitting next to us if we would be better received during next week's festivities wearing a Bush mask or an Obama mask. The man, who resembled a younger Jack Nicholson with slicked back hair, gave me an "Oh please," look and said, "Obama, of course."
After several ,2 ml of Kölsch beer and a flammkuchen, we were in good spirits ourselves and started walking toward our camper for the night. The snow was falling, and we were semi-drunk, so we began writing "Obama" on the windshields and hoods of several cars we passed by. When we got to our van, I wrote "Obama" on the car we were parked next to while my friend drove out of the parking lot. As we were about to make a left turn to our camping place, we saw a young couple strolling arm in arm down the road we'd just walked, stopping, stooping over, and pointing at the last "Obama" car. Then they embraced and gave each other a passionate kiss. They were still kissing as we drove away.
