Someone is buying Ann Coulter's book - but who is reading it?
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/22/books/bestseller/besthardnonfiction.html?_r=1

Coulter has been in the Top 10 now for a couple of weeks (but never made #1) and yet you have to wonder "Who is Reading this Book?". Turns out someone is buying the book but mainly in bulk. If NYTimes was smart they should just drop out the count of books bought in bulk because clearly this is a manuever to place books on the best seller's list. I wonder how well her book would do if it was only those people who actually bought the book.

What am I talking about - let me show you:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/22/books/bestseller/besthardnonfiction.html?_r=1

1 THE YANKEE YEARS, by Joe Torre and Tom Verducci. (Doubleday, $26.95.) The former Yankee manager (1996-2007) on his years with the team.

2 OUTLIERS, by Malcolm Gladwell. (Little, Brown, $27.99.) Why some people succeed. First Chapter 1 12
3 DEWEY, by Vicki Myron with Bret Witter. (Grand Central, $19.99.) The kitten left freezing in the returned-book slot of an Iowa public library and his rise to fame. 3 21
4 A SLOBBERING LOVE AFFAIR, by Bernard Goldberg. (Regnery, $25.95.) The mainstream media’s partisan support for Obama, from a Fox News media analyst. (†)
5 MULTIPLE BLESSINGS, by Jon Gosselin, Kate Gosselin and Beth Carson. (Zondervan, $19.) A couple has sextuplets. 6 16
6 GUILTY, by Ann Coulter. (Crown Forum, $27.95.) The columnist argues that liberals victimize everyone else by pretending to be victims themselves. (†)

See that (†) next to the book (Goldberg has it too. Ironically looking down thru the list Bill O'Reilly does not). This is what the (†) means:

A dagger (†) indicates that some bookstores report receiving bulk orders.

So isn't it lovely, someone out there is purposively buying this book in large quanities (and btw it's been done with all of her books) just so Annthrax can have 'credibility' of being a New York Times Best Seller.

1. Richard Melton Scafee.
It's widely known he buys many rightwingers' books in bulk to beef up sales and put the books on best-seller lists.

4. Reading? What is this word you use?
A little patience, and folks will be able to pick up the deathless prose of Mr. Goldberg, Ms. Coulter and Mr. O'Reilly all for a buck with the membership in some useless corner of the right-wing echo chamber. But I wouldn't recommend reading any of it.

6. wasn't there another reich-wing book a couple of years ago that was found to have been
bought up by the author to boost it's book sales standing?

ann-the-man's book is probably around $1.49 on Amazon by now - all of her books sell waaaaaaaay below the cover price - even when first released.

Something about a picture of her plastered with "Ann Coulter: GUILTY" gives me the warm fuzzies.

All that's missing is a few exclamation points.

8. I hear this is how Dianetics stayed up on the list so long too...
Church of Scientology would rebuy the books back to keep it high up there.

As for the gay man that worships Coultier... My head exploded. :/

9. They do it to keep these mouthpieces 'relevant'
If her books had meager sales, time and again, it would be harder to put her on TV shows and get her out there stirring shit up (credibility as you say). It's practically a business arrangement where certain shadowy behind the scenes figures like Scaife, pay these people to be propogandists, by buying their books in huge bulk orders rather than paying them directly.

10. Bulk orders. The RW books almost always have the (†) symbol at the bottom.

They either give them away or warehouse them.

15. Media Matters
They read crap like that so we don't have to.

Guilty: Coulter's latest book filled with falsehoods

Summary: Media Matters has examined a copy of Ann Coulter's new book, Guilty, and presents a sampling of the book's numerous falsehoods. These falsehoods include her defense of claims made against Sen. John Kerry by the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth; her assertion that "Fox News has never been caught promoting a fraud"; and her claim that President-elect Barack Obama was referring to Gov. Sarah Palin when he said "you know, you can put lipstick on a pig; it's still a pig."

16. Go to your nearest Dollar Store.

You can buy books written by Coultergeist, O'Lielly, Beck, et al, cheaper than toilet paper.

And they serve the same purpose.

17. The New York Times is smart enough to keep Coulter on the bestseller list...
...though they have the perfect excuse to drop her. Therefore, they want her there.
