Poll Shows McCarthy could beat Gillibrand in 2010
Rep. Carolyn McCarthy of Mineola would defeat U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand if a Democratic primary were held today, according to a poll released Tuesday.

The Quinnipiac University poll found 34 percent of Democrats would back McCarthy while 24 percent support Gillibrand. Thirty-nine percent were undecided.

McCarthy, a staunch gun control advocate, is mulling a run against Gillibrand next year because of Gillibrand's strong rating from the National Rifle Association. Gillibrand was appointed to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton last month after Clinton became secretary of state.

3. theres a difference between advocating gun rights for hunters
and signing onto a brief to challenge another jurisdiction's (Washington DC'S) hand gun lawns, when she doesnt even represent DC.

8. And she STILL supported the war in 2006, when Gillibrand was running against it.
Edited on Tue Feb-17-09 01:37 PM by TheWraith
Everyone knows I've advocated giving some people a pass for the initial IWR vote due to certain circumstances, but McCarthy was voting for the Republicans "All is well in Iraq and we're winning" resolution of "support" for the war in 2006 when Gillibrand was running on a platform to end the war and get out.

McCarthy is bad news.

And most don't know McCarthy isn't that spectacular. Also, the party would likely help Gillibrand.

13. The point is it shows that Gillibrand is vulnerable and any challenges
Edited on Tue Feb-17-09 03:07 PM by liskddksil
should be given serious merit. Last I heard McCarthy is not the only congresswoman considering a challenge, Maloney, a member of the progressive caucus, is as well.

is that she is a Patterson appointment.
