Must-Read Digby: 'Philosophical Differences.' A GOP Conspiracy Theory on the Downturn is Brewing
They want to blame George Soros for personally tanking the economy to make trickle-down look bad and win the election for Obama. Is this what we'll be hearing from the nutcases on the right for the next eight years?

Digby's post is inspired by the following exchange between Chris Matthews and JD "Bozo the Clown" Hayworth on Hardball yesterday:

Matthews: You guys controlled the White House for eight years. Would we be better off if we had eight more years of that policy of the Republicans for eight more years. Would we be better off?

Hayward:Low taxes, a strong national defense and good economic growth. Yeah, I'll take that.

Matthews: But that's not what we've got! We have an economic catastrophe on our hands after the last eight years! We have nobody buying anything, nobody selling anything. Nobody buying houses, nobody buying cars, stock prices going through the floor. You think this is good?

Hayward: You want to get into the whereas's of this we can go back and take a look. No, I'll tell you what was bad. The sneak attack on our economy, the dress rehearsal that was the debacle of Indybank, that Chuck Shumer helped get that started and the guy in the backround, George Soros manipulating all the currency. You wanna keep that goin'?

Matthews: What?

Hayworth: That's what's goin' on here. The fact is that ...

Matthews: You mean the economic situation we face right now is not the results of the administration policy but ..

Hayworth: You want to get started on outlandish scenarios, go take a look at what Paul Kanjorski had to say...

Matthews: JD, you can talk fast, but I don't know what you're talking about.

Hayworth: You don't want to listen

Matthews: George Soros? What are you talking about?

Hayworth: Go take a look at what Paul Kanjorski said a couple of weeks ago on CSPAN about how the economy got in the mess it was in. I'll tell ya this. On balance, six of the eight years were strong years. Did we have a meltdown, you bet. Do I want to see the meltdown continue? No. No American wants to see that. But to have you set up a narrowly defined area where you can say "aha! I gotcha, and I really should be running for the senate against Arlen Specter" -- is a moot point, Chris. And maybe that's why Specter went for the package after all.

6. Reminds me of the rule about saving panicking swimmers who believe they are drowning...
You have to be careful when you approach them in the water that they don't grab on to you in their panic. Could have detrimental consequences for the both of you!

That's what this guy sounds like: a panicking swimmer who believes he is drowning. He is lashing out and trying to grab on to anything to stay afloat.

3. Ow.
My brain hurts trying to figure some of this stuff out. Seriously? Does he listen to himself?

"Six of the eight years were strong!"

Too bad Bush * 2 != 6 years. It's eight, and those last two really counted.

9. So, JDs admitting that Bush let Bin Laden FULFILL his threat to bring down our economy?
Yeah....tanking the economy FOR Bin Laden and other war profiteers and cronies was Bush's idea of national defense policy.

so the RW begins a comic-book stupid attempt to blame Soros. Hey Presto: Any talk of market manipulation is now a "Silly Conspiracy Theory no better than the kooky RW theories(tm)"

7. And
And the six 'good' years were based on an economic bubble and DISASTER CAPITALISM.

Funny how even the wealthy pigs that rode this are ending up just as screwn as the rest of us, with their holdings being so devalued and all.

8. Six of the eight years were strong!
Like if you fall off a 300 foot cliff, the first 298 feet are just fine! Okay, there was some unpleasantness those last couple of feet, but let's not get all Gloomy Gus, focusing on the negative.

Hayworth's babbling defies any attempt at analysis, and one wonders why such lunatic rantings are featured so prominently in the popular media.

15. My bat-shit crazy right wing brother says...
this is the end of times as prophesied in Revelations! He says the Jews will be slaughtering animals again in Jerusalem and that Satan will then swoop onto the world scene as the anti-christ. I told him he's fucking lost it! He says all kinds of things about the New World Order, Obama getting assassinated in a muslim country. I mean this is serious mind bending shit coming from a Limbaugh devotee who also listens to end times bullshit from the likes of John Hagee.

16. I love this--"Matthews: What?"
There was a sneak attack on our economy, all right. The Financial 9/11 that the Bushwhacks pulled off in September was no accident. And you can track it back to Bush Cartel actions over the last three decades just as surely as you can track their creation of Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda, during the Reagan regime to fight side by side with the CIA against the Russians in Afghanistan. They've got documents that lay out the need for a new "Pearl Harbor" in order to generate militarism in the U.S. and hijack our military for corporate resource wars (--the infamous 'Project for a New American Century'-PNAC). Then, funny thing, the terrorists that the Bush Cartel created hand them their "new Pearl Harbor."

There are plenty of public documents laying out the plan to--as Grover Norquist put it--"drown" our government in "the bathtub"--that is, pull out all the failsafes in our government/economic system, so that it can be completely looted. This began with Reagan and has been on-going for three decades, culminating in the Bush Junta, with the weird mortgage "derivatives" scheme (speculators betting on peoples' inability to pay their mortgage, with insurance payoffs only possible when a mortgage holder defaulted--the weirdest goddamned ponzi scheme I ever heard of--and the most traitorous). This is the end-product of a series of deregulation actions that were greatly exacerbated by the Bushwhacks' multiple tax cuts for the rich, and profligate spending on one trillion dollar-ticket items like Iraq, where billions of dollars simply disappeared into private hands. And the object of it all was the final looting of us and our government, this September, with another trillion dollars just handed over, no strings attached, to the already rich criminal speculators and bankers, in the last month of Bushwhack power.

It was treated just like the first 9/11, as a great crisis--the threatened end of civilization--requiring the immediate dishout of a trillion dollars, no questions asked.

George Soros is responsible for this?! That is a hoot. A far better theory is that it was the 'TRADE SECRET' voting machines, with the secret code owned and controlled by rightwing Bushwhack corporations, that were fast-tracked all over the country, during the 2002-2004 period, guaranteeing that Bush would be in the driver's seat for this second 9/11 (the Financial one)--but that's me. I have a native distrust of Bushwhack 'trade secrets'...ahem, especially in our voting system. Something wrong with that. I can smell it. :sarcasm:

But I think whoever said it upthread is correct, that Hayworth's crazy meandering thoughts should be parsed for upcoming corpo/fascist 'news' monopoly "talking points." He's obviously a dimwit, but he picks up phrases and memes, like scraps from the table of his betters, and vomits them up on cue, all half-digested and mixed together.

17. JD Hayworth does not a conspiracy theory make...
...he's booked on these shows because he's a big mouth -- I haven't seen anyone else trying to pawn the financial disaster on intentional efforts by Soros or anyone else.

18. Just look at the digby article.
There are a couple of other examples of wingers getting ready to run with it. Better to blame Soros than face the reality that it's Republicanism that got the economy into the mess it's in.
