HIllary: "I'm not going to substitute my judgement for theirs"
Just read this on AOL news.

Meanwhile, one of Edwards', Democratic rivals, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, sidestepped a question at a town hall meeting Monday morning in Iowa about whether the Edwardses might be able to cope with both a family medical crisis and the demands of the White House if John Edwards were elected president.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Elizabeth," Clinton said at the meeting aired on ABC's "Good Morning America," calling Mrs. Edwards "an incredibly strong woman."

She said she thought the Edwardses should decide "the best way for their family to handle this crisis. I'm not going to substitute my judgment for theirs ... It's so hard to have these intensely personal decisions played out in public."

Interesting...the way it's phrased, her "judgement" might be different. Sure hope Bill stays healthy, Hill, or this might come back to bite ya.

1. Jeez - This is exactly the right answer. Whether she agrees or disagrees with them is absolutely
irrelevant.

I do not like her, but here, she said exactly what she had to say, that she has nothing to say, either to approve or disapprove.

3. I think that's quite a leap . . .
Hillary, like most of us, probably doesn't know what she would do if faced with a situation like that of the Edwardses.

4. I think you may be distorting her words.
I don't think there's any controversy there.

Can you explain how this was the wrong thing to say?

6. perhaps...
If she had said, "This is their call and I respect their judgement on this matter" then that would be perfectly fine. When she says she won't substitute her judgement, it appears that she would have done something different given identical circumstances.

Maybe that's too critical a reading, but that's how I saw it.

8. Yeah, I can see how it's ambiguous. she has a way of speaking
that is noncommittal that makes you think she's failing to comment because if she told the truth, we wouldn't like it or it would be something negative.

On the other hand, he is a competitor so she's not going to forget that, even if it's on a subconcious level.

(And I didn't mean you were deliberately distorting her message, sorry if that came out wrong.)

Peace :hi:

5. It is an interesting question; she is running against Edwards
So anything she says has to be viewed in the that light I suppose.
