What makes them so goddamn special? I've been out of work since July and have many friends and family members out of work. The point is, the Big Three were poorly managed and not interested in new technology (until after the fact) and giving them even more money is ridiculous.

If an auto worker loses his/her job, I feel bad for them. However, I don't feel their job is any more valuable than anyone else's and they do not deserve special consideration. I'm sick of hearing so many people argue that we have to bail out the auto companies because we don't want the auto workers to lose their jobs. I don't understand that reasoning when millions of others, who worked for companies who were poorly managed or caught up in the housing downturn or were driven into the ground by greedy CEOs and on and on, have lost their jobs. What's the damn difference? You lose your job. You're a casualty. You hurt and then heal. You go on with your life.

We're talking about an entire INDUSTRY going under. The government is part of auto company's problem so why shouldn't they help fix it? Our crappy trade policies. The fact that we force our companies to pay for health care when other countries provide it for all citizens. These are problems that our government has burdened the auto industry with and puts them at a disadvantage when compared to foreign companies. If you don't think the US auto industry going under would affect then you are mistaken. It would push our already suffering economy from a recession to a depression. The fact that people are willing to put their hatred of the auto companies in front of doing what's best for the country is beyond me.

...the American auto industry survives, it's all going in the crapper anyway. All the bills, rescues, bailouts, etc aren't going to be able to prop it up forever. And propping up any FAILED industry or corporation is NOT what's best for this country.

Again, the reasoning is ridiculous! "The government is part of auto company's problem so why shouldn't they help fix it?" Thanks to government deregulation, you could say that for 90% of companies that are in distress and laying off people or closing right now.

in 1979 and in 1992. ya it was goddam special to have a job that paid a decent wage,good benefits,and rights that were protected by a contract. i`ve been out of work for three fucking years cause i`m to old and in the way. oh ya...my daughter is laid off because those goddam special guys ain`t working...ya she does`t deserve that 14 per hour she made.
