First of all, I think it is great that she had the baby but OMG, these poor people from Alaska are white trash. I listened to Bristol on Greta's show and she said that abstinence does not work. Well as the saying goes, “it works every time it is tried.” She said that it is not realistic but I have 2 nieces that are 19 and 23 and they are abstinent. The fact of the matter is that the mother (Sarah) was not watching the daughter and Levi and they did the nasty. My sister watches my nieces and they are abstinent. I just wish Sarah would stop killing animals and watch her kids better.

It's rare, but it happens - I am still abstinent at 23 due to non-religious reasons of my own choosing. *shrug* I agree the majority are not going to abstain, but because of my own experience I can't automatically assume someone who says they are a virgin isn't, and is a liar, unless their behavior clearly indicates otherwise. I don't see anything wrong with mentioning "If you feel like you cannot deal with having sex safely and resposibly, abstinence is the only 100% protection" but birth control and STD prevention should absolutely be taught. That was pretty much the sex ed I got. I am assuming Bristol meant abstinence only sex ed does not work, not absistence by the minority who really truly want to abstain won't work out.

And of course they should know what to do "just in case". What really cracks me up in that thread is the number of people who say that some kids make a mistake, and thats the way it has always been. I actually agree with that sentiment, but yet they don't think the kids should know how to protect themselves. If kids are going to have sex no matter what you do if they really want to, but god forbid that they have an abortion if that is what they choose, that they don't think the kid should know how to prevent getting pregnant.
