Nice. TX Gov may pick and choose which stim $ to accept
Translated from repukese to English...we'll take the $ for transportation but that $ to help "other programs", probably not.
Uh-huh..other programs like the ones that will help the lower income or unemployed population in Texas, I assume???

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/texassouthwest/stories/021809dntexstimulus.28b145a.html

Perry told the business group he wants to be able to use federal money to pay for one-time expenses, such as building roads and hurricane reconstruction. State Transportation Department spokesman Chris Lippincott said last week when the stimulus bill was still being finalized that Texas could get up to $2.5 billion for transportation projects.

"We'll gladly accept those dollars," Perry said.

But Perry also said Texas should be wary of spending on other programs just to draw down billions more in federal money that may not be available in two or three years, sticking Texas with the bill. Perry did not say what those programs might be.

(snip)

"There are governors that are out there with their hand out, saying 'Oh send us all, send us more, send us all you got.' They're welcoming every bit of it with open arms," Perry said.

11. Well, it has..it's just that the local media has not admitted it..
Pre-Jan 20th all the DMN articles had all things rosy in TX. Post Jan 20th, I've started seeing more and more articles..more layoffs, housing market declining, car sales dropping in the DFW by 50% at one point. And we know why..so they can blame it all on the Obama administration.

5. Don't pay any attention to governor Good Hair.
He will take the money and then claim credit for everything it does.

15. Betting he doesn't take "credit" for the $9 billion revenue gap.
that TX has accumulated. Much like when chimp was running for Pres in 2000 and was asked (prior to that Nov 2000 election) what was he going to tell TX lawmakers in Jan 2001 when they convened and saw just how in the red the state had become under the chimp regime...his response to the reporter who asked him "well, I hope to NOT BE HERE then".

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/texassouthwest/stories/021909dntexstimulus.2ade10e.html

A special panel of state lawmakers are setting about trying to identify dozens of deadlines and triggers that will enable the state to receive more than $16 billion from the federal economic rescue plan.

(snip)

Texas' share of the package is divided among education, health and human services, transportation, labor, criminal justice, and housing and infrastructure.

Gov. Rick Perry, who wrote President Barack Obama this week to accept the money on behalf of Texas, objects to the economic stimulus and has suggested some of the money be rejected even though the state faces a $9 billion revenue gap.

6. As a Texan, I encourage the governor to take a drive around the state &
talk with the people. Sometimes I wonder what state Perry resides in. There's a lot of money in Texas but there's a lot of poverty too.

13. The dick wad that calls himself the Governor of Texas
Rick Perry you piece of shit, try driving down to Galveston and the Bolivar Peninsula and see what you and the rest of the fucking Republican Lege haven't done. 77% of FEMA claims denied. Homes and businesses boarded up, but by god we have a brand new biological laboratory with the world's most dangerous bacterial and viral agents built on a barrier island with the potential to only withstand winds of 140 mph should another hurricane decide to take a punch at Texas. UTMB Hospital - closed, the Shrine Burn Hospital - closed - fucking TAKE THE MONEY!!!!!

17. If TX doesn't want the $$$, I'm sure people in my state of IL will be happy to put them to use.
Come to think of it, California and Florida probably wouldn't mind more federal assistance either.

18. All the governors can and will do that. If there is state money required to be spent to get some of
it they will have to make a budget decision.

19. Without reading his specifics, it does make some sense...
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 07:54 PM by Jack_DeLeon
Assuming you are on a tight budget, and someone wants to buy you something thats fine it makes sense to accept. However if someone wants to sign you up for some program and makes the first payment but you have to keep up with the rest of the payments on your own, well yeah that doesnt make so much sense budget wise.

Now I'll read the article and see whats up.

Read the article, he doesnt even know the specifics of the bill either...
