Best news of the Day? Sirius/XM still exists,
Over 500 million injected by Liberty Media. I am grateful.

2. I agree 100%.
We really need alternative radio to what is provided over the commercial airwaves.

17. All of those and....
Siriusly Sinatra. I admit it -- I love the old crooners.

And listening to Bob Edwards on the morning commute is most excellent. He used to wake me up every morning.

I don't believe they were in danger of going out of business.

9. To hear him describe it, the worst that would happen was a chapter 11 reorganization.
He made it out to not be that big of a deal and that they weren't going off the air in any case.

However it is, I'm glad they aren't going away.

11. Actually, Howard is a huge reason why they haven't gone bankrupt already
The millions of people that followed him over gave Sirius a chance. And then there's the millions f others that took satellite seriously just because Howard is there.

Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 10:20 AM by Renew Deal
Stern doesn't have a slot. He has two channels. Also, satellite works in a way that the company owns all the channels, so there is no time slot constraint.

Please post a link for your little lie.

15. All true, Renew
Liberty chairman John Malone grew up in DC. Said, "The Greaseman was an essential part of my personal maturation process. I would have been suicidal without him". Pretty strong stuff. Thinks Stern is "vastly overrated and overcompensated". Wow! Sounds like a reworking of a contract, to me.

16. Good luck with "reworking" his contract.
Howard would go into early retirement and his listeners would follow him out the door.

18. nobody wants
to pay for radio. They were both losing customers so they merged to create a satellite radio monopoly and still were unable to keep or lure customers. Let it die already.

19. Totally disagree, pnutbutr
Commercial radio is the biggest farce going. Bar none. Their are many of us who will even pay more for satellite radio. Commercial free with every musical genre available. A music lovers dream. It's not going anywhere. Like alot of other things,it just needs some serious pruning. No wordplay intended.

22. I must disagree
First of all, I fork over my monthly subscription fee without QUESTION. Often I prepay 3-6 months in advance just to ensure that my subscription will not interrupt. I am one of the many who would have a hard time going back to terrestrial radio. It's one of the luxury items that I feel I would part with last given a choice.

Secondly, I feel that the amount of time that the merger spent in FCC committee helped put Sirius/XM where it is now. The time it took is in direct proportion to the economy taking it's downturn towards deep recession, creating a smaller market of new subscribers who are looking to cut costs at every turn.

Lastly, I do not believe that satellite radio is a monopoly, they are just the first kids on the block. In a few years from now, you'll see other startups and begin to have a better choice in which subscriber you'd like to be a part of. Give it time.
