Two Top Choices For The 10pm MSNBC Slot From Sam Stein Of HuffPo & TYT Gets (Un)Suspended
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 12:25 AM by ihavenobias
Well, it's been an interesting couple of days. First my computer was infected by some crazy Malaware/Spyware/Virus (translation: I have no idea, but thankfully it's fixed) leaving me unable to respond to emails, leave comments or even download podcasts.

Then I found out that the TYT YouTube account was suspended on the same day that Sam Stein of the Huffington Post () wrote an article on how Cenk and Sam Seder are two top choices for the new MSNBC 10pm slot. At any rate, here are the two featured videos that many of you were unable to watch today because of the BS suspension which has now been lifted (Was the timing the suspension a coincidence? Some have suggested not, but I won't speculate.):

1)-

2)-

And here is an excerpt from the new Sam Stein piece:

With MSNBC announcing that it was looking to fill its 10PM time slot with original broadcasting, two prominent self-avowed liberals are positioning themselves for the post.

Cenk Uygur, of the Young Turks Show, and Sam Seder, who headed a popular eponymous show on Air America, aren't taking the traditional route to the recently announced opening. Rather than rise through the cable news structure, they are using new media tools to organize their supporters and put pressure on MSNBC brass. In Uygur's case, the effort is billed as an election-year style campaign (think: Barack Obama meets "30 Rock.")

"We thought that it would be fun to run it like a political campaign and involve the online community as much as possible," said Uygur. "We're gonna use Facebook, bloggers, and friends in the online community ... In the end, there is only one real voter and in this case the voter is Phil Griffin. In reality, of course, there is a wider constituency there."

To that end, both Uygur and Seder have Facebook groups touting their rightness for the post, with 4,200 and 2,700 members respectively. The signatories are almost all of a progressive tilt. But they also represent the young, wealthy, tech-savvy demographic that leaves networks and advertisers salivating.

Both hosts know that this, in the end, is their trump card: the promise of transferring (and hopefully expanding) their following from radio and YouTube to a cable outlet. Uygur, for example, has roughly 300,000 viewers on a daily basis and recently passed 65 million views on his YouTube channel..."

PS---Hopefully you already joined (and invited your FB friends to join). Now you can can , and then send an email to letters@msnbc.com and let them know you want Cenk for the 10pm slot. And obviously you can use the Huffington Post link above to leave a positive comment in favor of TYT (or Sam, who I like BTW).

11. Thanks! BTW, here are my 5 reasons to choose Cenk
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 12:41 AM by ihavenobias
Cenk would be a great choice because:

1)-He's made huge inroads with New Media. The TYT youtube channel reached over 63 million views in 18 months which is astounding for anyone familiar with the format. Cenk would represent an inevitable and invaluable bridge between cable news and the internet.

2)-Building off of #1, Cenk could bring in an untapped, younger demographic. You know, all those young people who got involved this last election aren't necessarily interested in listening to yet another old white guy on TV.

3)-He's had an insanely impressive guest list which includes: Rachel Maddow, Arianna Huffington, Ted Kennedy, Michael Moore, Alan Greenspan, Grover Norquist, Howard Dean, Naomi Klein, John Cusack and way too many others to name. Imagine who he could get on MSNBC?

4)-It would add some diversity. Viewers are ready for change, and that includes the aesthetics/background of their talk show hosts. After all, we did just elect "Barack Hussein Obama".

5)-His style and delivery are very different from both Maddow and KO. And he's proven his tv presence with his stints on CNN-HN, like when he defended Gen. Wesley Clark's McCain comments.

35. I agree - was thinking about this last night and it would be perfect
for the 10pm spot. It'll take big balls for msnbc to hire someone who speaks his mind as well/much as Cenk does, but wow it would be awesome and I think it would kill in the ratings - especially for adults who are awake at that time, havin put their kids to bed, and wanting an intelligent news show to watch. /me crosses his fingers...

2. Stop! You're killing me! I love Sam, and TYT! How's about this: MERGE.
I dunno -- I've had three bourbons tonight -- but you know what -- I'm thinking, why not a show featuring BOTH? I would love it.

4. I like Sam a lot actually. It's ridiculous that he doesn't have a M-F show anymore.
And he was great co-hosting TYT with Cenk, so hey, who knows.

27. Yes, that continues to be a mystery. I subscribe to AA, but
I often wonder what the hell they think they're doing. They got rid of Mike Malloy, they replace Sammy with this Lionel guy, they largely ignore one of the brightest lights, Laura Flanders....WTF???

I keep my subscription for Thom Hartmann and Ron Reagan.

10. Why choose? Hire them both.
Open up a slot in the PM and you can rotate them between the 2 time slots to see who gets better ratings. MSNBC will get some good things from that.

1) You'll become the unquestionable leader in broadcast progressive programming - you know you'll get the Democrats and the WH beating feet to get on your line-up.

2) you'll gain marketshare in the afternoon, it's pretty bad now with continuous news that repeats the same stories over and over.

I have no clue who this "Sam Seder" guy is, but I'm a big fan of TYT, I watch every clip they post on Youtube everyday. I've sent 2 e-mails to MSNBC, signed the petition and joined the Facebook group. I'll keep supporting Cenk and TYT regardless if they get the slot or not.

Stupid fuckin' YouTube! WTF?

Honestly, of all of the "Left" commentators out there, Cenk is one of the most credible and sober. We need him NOW! The Repugnicants and mounting a full court press to fuck us over.

LISTEN TO MY SHIT:
http://media.switchpod.com/users/jd/TheFrankFactorShow6021609.mp3

I apologize...sort of, for my harshing of the buzz of Obamaniks and Democratic, self-flagellating, rightwing nutsack kissing bipartasanoids bent on snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, and most definitely some of my venting at President Obama in show #5. Even with the fact that Republicanism is a failure Democrats may lack the strength to overcome the right and the turd tornado they have left us. Will our majority gains be given away by our lack of fight and focus? We pinch the Rightwing Nutsack and much more.
