I'm not saying the banking industry is hurting or anything
I'm just noticing one of my accounts interest rates has dropped by a factor of 100 in two years. Yes they now advertise an exciting 0.04 % interest rate! How long before I'm paying the bank to keep my money?

1. There is a bubble in "safe" places to stash money
from the humble savings account through the T-bill. Returns on all of them have taken a dive as nervous investors have flocked to them in order to try to preserve inflated stock market assets.

My own feeling is that as the whole mess worsens, we are going to see negative returns on much of it, especially the T-bill, to account for deflation. People who rushed to stash their assets are going to find out they outsmarted themselves.

Until the bubble pops and the money rushes back into stocks, be resigned to low to no return on your savings.

2. try an online savings acct.
I have one at GMAC right now - it is paying 2.75% which is a lot more than my bank which has its money market at .45% at present. :(

3. Yeah I moved most of my money
over to my credit union which funny enough didn't do home loans and seems to be doing wonderful atm. They even gave me a bonus at the end of the year because they were doing so well.
