Pope to US Speaker Pelosi: Reject abortion support - AP
Or what? Invade San Francisco?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090218/ap_on_re_eu/eu_vatican_us_pelosi

VATICAN CITY – Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday told U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, a Catholic who supports abortion rights, that Catholic politicians have a duty to protect life "at all stages of its development."

Pelosi is the first top Democrat to meet with Benedict since the election of Barack Obama, who won a majority of the American Catholic vote despite differences with the Vatican on abortion.

The Vatican released the pope's remarks to Pelosi, saying Benedict spoke of the church's teaching "on the dignity of human life from conception to natural death." That is an expression often used by the pope when expressing opposition to abortion.

Benedict said all Catholics — especially legislators, jurists and political leaders — should work to create "a just system of laws capable of protecting human life at all stages of its development."

8. Pelosi needs to remind the Pope about the misgivings that JFK faced
as the first Catholic president. She needs to tell him that American Catholic politicians can not be controlled by the Pope. Witness the problems that the Mormons are having for supporting Prop 8 in California. She needs to tell him that the Pope is risking a split in the Catholic electorate that would greatly diminish the chances of Catholic politicians. JFK campaigned on a pledge that he would be independent of the Pope. Many American Catholics would not like to see the Pope meddling in American politics.

I am a pro-choice American Catholic.

9. I've lived to see a Black president
I'm only 36 so I hope I live long enough where American government eventually tells the Pope to mind his own business, clean up his own mess, and we're just fine without him.

16. Warpy to Ratzinger: Piss off unless you want a visit from the tax man
Your dogma doesn't belong in our civil law and if you continue to try to force it there, you are a political organization and subject to taxation.

You can bully your church members into forced childbirth, but you've got nothing to say to the rest of us.

19. Rethugs own abortion due to 2000-2006 majorities.
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 04:22 PM by Union Yes
They always campaign against abortion rights at election time. Yet when they controlled all 3 branches of Govt from '00 to '06 they hardly even talked about banning choice.

Why?

Because there is no profit in banning abortion. It was never a priority once they took power in Washington. It's merely an election rallying cry ploy used to attract votes from the antichoice crowd.

Memo to the Pope...

Rethugs now own abortion.

Remember DU'ers, remind rethugs that they now forever own abortion.

.................................................................

This man thinks the choice is best left up to women.

Peace
