We Need Button Ideas - Can you help?
Our local Democratic org needs some good button ideas for when we go to events.

Any Ideas? I thought this on a button would work:

& maybe something on these lines

"The Republican Plan for Help"

Can you help?

1. Well, you need to be a little more specific. Do you want to use the buttons for recruiting, for
getting out a Democratic talking point, for getting out a "progressive" idea, or what?

3. Ummmm......
I think that image on the cover of Time is protected by intellectual property laws.

And the lottery ticket idea completely ignores the fact that the recently signed stimulus package offers absolutely no direct benefit to the long term unemployed. Long term as in the unemployment benefits ran out the day before that thing becomes effective. I guess some folks don't even deserve a lottery ticket.

That stimulus package sure makes some folks feel good and believe that something is being done to resolve our economic crisis. In reality it is like treating cancer with a band aid.

the necessary 60 votes out of the US Senate.

I'm sure Rush Limbaugh wishes there were more Democrats like you in the House and Senate so the plan could be defeated outright. Uber-progressives can be great at linking up w/ the obstructionists to defeat things, especially those w/o a sense of humor.

It's all been a real help to my original request, about ideas for things to put on a button to help a Democratic organization that supports legislation that you oppose.

16. I responded to the question posed in your OP
You said you were considering using two images.

I pointed out that the first is subject to copyright protections - as did another DUer.

I also pointed out that there are other interpretations besides the one you envision for the second image. How you see that image is immaterial to how your audience sees and interprets that same image.

It is one thing to wear a badge that conveys your opinion. It is quite another thing to wear a button that influences others. The difference is understanding your audience and knowing how to appeal to them.

Your agreement with my statements is irrelevant to whether my commentary was responsive to your inquiry.

I would like to suggest that you consider that everything is not either black or white. There are many shades of grey. Pointing out oversights and questioning lost opportunities is not the equivalent of opposition. You seem unable to make that distinction. Kind of reminds me of shrubbie saying "you're either with us or against us." I would further note that President Obama has made a conscious effort to include and seek out and show respect for input and opinions from folks whose views are likely to conflict with his own. One would hope that his more devoted followers might make an effort to do the same.

FWIW, it is an utter waste of time to pretend that Democrats are all marching in lock-step unity without questioning and automatically rubber stamping the party and/or president's agenda. Never has happened. Never will. I am not alone among Democrats in questioning aspects of the stimulus package. There are folks in dire need of assistance who will not directly benefit in any way. I also am not alone in noting that some omissions from the stimulus package represent lost opportunities. It could easily be argued that the money from those tax cuts which will go to folks who already have jobs might better be used to fund capital and health care for new business startups through the SBA loans. I didn't hear anyone - Republican or Democrat - making that proposal.

5. Need more info.

Where are you located? What are the top issues in your area/community? Are you looking to promote a specific issue or candidate?

I've done lots of buttons and graphic designs for party, issues, candidates -- it really does help to know the target audience. I'd be happy to help, but without that info, it's hard to offer ideas.
