At the end of the day, the bottom line is...
that I'd like to see these two tired cliches, figures of speech, or whatever you'd call them, permanently banished from the language.

If you mean finally, or eventually, this is what will happen, or result, just say that in as few words as possible without the tired labels.

While we're at it, dump "the fact of the matter is...".
First of all, when I hear that, especially from a repug, I know that I'm about to hear a lie.

If it's really a 'fact', you don't need to tell me it is.
And the statement that your 'fact' concerns the matter under discussion is howlingly redundant.

I'll be able to judge for myself if what you just said is, in fact ;-), true or not.

End of rant.
We now return you to your regularly scheduled forum.
:-)

2. The one that gets me
is "I'm just sayin"

Usually after a diatribe where the person doesn't want to come out and flat out say anything or what they are trying to convey is buried inuendo frequently the opposite of what they expressly say. Just drives me nuts.

3. What upset you, Trof? Did you read a post you don't understand and that frustrated you?
Edited on Wed Feb-18-09 05:55 PM by Mike 03
Maybe if you tell us what's on your mind we can help explain it. I've had those days too, believe me.

17. Don't forget "going forward."
"At the end of the day" and "the bottom line" have been with us for as long as I can remember at least. "Going foward" has been spreading like Kudzu just over the past decade. Unfortunately, going foward is going places!

"At the end of the day, the bottom line is, connect the dots!"

20. When you talk about "turn of the century" tell us WHICH century!
I cannot count the number of times I have seen that phrase about furniture, houses, politics, etc. in the last few years without specifying which century. Sometimes it is obvious - Queen Anne or Art Nouveau styles are from 1900; IKEA 2000. But sometimes it is confusing as hell.
