There can only be one meaning here. Chimp is NY Post racist cartoonist.

In the original cartoon, chimp can be interpreted multiple ways but it is a stretch to say the chimp in the original cartoon is Obama.

Remove the KKK hood from the chimp above and you'll see how interpreting the original cartoon as racist is quite a stretch.

ANY OTHER WEEK the original cartoon would have ran I would agree that it is making more of a racial statement.

But THIS week when an out of control chimp was shot by the cops it is a perfectly OK comparison to congress and the Stimulus Bill that some people think is out of control.

Now, on this cartoon at Huffington Post, there is no ambiguity. Cops shoot KKK chimp who is cartoonist for NY Post.

Remove KKK hood and it's exactly like the original cartoon. You HAVE to add that blatant racist depiction of the hood in order to have the meaning of the cartoon be racist.

Anybody remember the term "chimperor"? Calling Bush a monkey--or editing images of him to appear more simian--was not exactly uncommon, and carried no racial overtones whatsoever.

But before anybody jumps me accusing me of siding with the cartoonist, I am not. I think he most likely intentionally drew it to work on two levels, one racist and one arguably innocent. But because one meaning is arguably innocent and we can never prove his intent, there's not much we can do.
