3. The market will regulate pet foods.

When enough people's pets die, the people will stop buying that brand of dog food. Eventually, when enough pets die from testing the various brands of food, the people will have a complete list of the offending foods and stop buying them. It will only take a few years and a few million pets.

Works the same way for baby food. The market will control quality.

They're happy to watch Spot or Fluffy writhe in agony as long as their shares in Menu Foods' stock bring a profit.

Look what they tolerate in Iraq in the name of the almighty $$$. If they don't care about humans writhing in pain for oil, they damned sure don't care about mere animals dying from cheap food if it makes the company more of a profit.

Also now did you know places in Africa are using DDT to kill mosquitos? Apparantly they are being told in small amounts its the best way to control malaria and its really not that dangerous, Rachel Carson did "junk science". Please. Even if it works in the short term anything that is a proven killer of the natural controls on mosquitoes (birds) is just going to make things worse eventually.
Selfishly, though why does this have to be at the possible expense of my kitties?

except for trader joe's Tuna For Cats. that's cheap, but its all (gross bits of) tuna.

the premium feed goes to the horses.

I am letting the chickens help feed the dogs. Found a little stash of eggs and I'm adding those and some gravy to the rice.

I'm seriously afraid to feed anything commercially made.

but he's just a little Westie (and a smaller than average one at that), so it lasts a while. If she had gotten a bigger dog, she wouldn't be able to afford it at all.

I use a freezer I got on Freecycle. It saves us $70/month vs. kibble.

If you have cats or small dogs, it's VERY expensive, but so is veterinary care for liver or kidney failure. But on the other hand, euthanasia is only about $75.

At least there's the small silver lining that the stock price has gone down almost 50% since the recall was announced, so at least the company is already feeling some hurt... which will be nothing when the lawsuits start coming.

12. Some of us go way back with fighting

Nestle's for the baby formula sent to Aftrica. For several reasons...no safe water to mix it, people would mix it too thin to make it go farther, and...the worst...the missing amino acids that was causing serious brain damage in infants.

We've always wondered when they'd turn it on us here at home. I didn't, however, expect it to be a Canadian company. I thought they were more ethical than American businesses.

And we live in a nation where there is still some semblance of consumer rights. You've no doubt imagined, as I have, how frustrating and tragic this sort of thing is to people living in places where they have no recourse against huge corporations.

28. I think many pet owners will either cook their

own pet food or buy organic. there are lots of organics out there. I have researched since this recall was issued.
