Governor General of Canada???

Can some of our Canadians DU'ers explain the duties of this office. I know the current Gov is just beautiful. She looked wonderful greeting Prez-O today in Ottawa.

4. Canada's head of state is the Queen.

Her vice-regal representative in Canada is the Governor General, currently a Haitian born woman called Michaëlle Jean.

It made a grand photo seeing the two heads of state together!

5. Essentially, her role is to cut ribbons, attend ceremonies, make nice speeches, smile, and...

sign off on what the Prime Minister wants. The position is (and Im not saying this because of gender) similar to "First Lady", with more formality and procedure (but just as much power).
