Any good survival books?
Can anyone recommend any good survival/preparation books should the economy completely collapse? I am assuming martial law will be declared in city areas so I am not too interested in books that say to load up on ammo to protect your self from your fellow citizen.

However, any good books that make recommendations for how much extra food to store, what kind, other needed items, etc?

1. How about the Zombie Survival Guide.
It's pretty much for a fictional collapse of society...like the one you're envisioning.

9. I loved that book!
I also have How to Survive a Robot Uprising....just in case.

There are some great free books out there from Project Gutenberg. http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

You could look there, too.

11. 2010. It would make a better miniseries on HBO than a film IMHO.
If they want the geopolitics in there they would have to. It would make a movie far too long.

4. The Fox Fire series from the Seventies had useful information on how to
live off the land. Water purification, trapping game, cleaning and preparing it, recognizing poisonous plants, etc.

5. The Foxfire Books
Especially the first three. Things like gardening, hunting, canning, preserving without refrigeration, wild plant foods, log cabin building, even making moonshine--the way it was all done over a hundred years ago up in the hills.

12. The best way to prepare is learn all about food production and preservation.
If nothing else, it will become a highly prized skill in the future because so few in the cities have a clue about how.

Here is your textbook: Encyclopedia of Country Living by Carla Emery - don't let the "country" part turn you off - urban homesteading is quite feasible.

14. If there's martial law, then you won't have to worry.
You'll get your rations or be escorted to your work center and so forth. Now if you try to escape, then you'll need that survival guide.
