That is because they are the top 10 largest landowners in the country. From television magnet Ted Turner who heads the list to the Huber Family that owns both timber and oil land, the holdings are amazing.

The 2 million acres that Ted Turner owns is pretty large. Rhode Island only has 776,957.

1. Land, not homes.

That article is about land. Land is a fantastic investment. But owning a home (today) is rarely about the land; it's about the house on the land. That's why people in the 'burbs have the absolute minimum easement between neighbors.

3. You need land to build a home on. Do you think that this country was

founded completely covered with 10,000 square foot ranch homes when the Pilgrims got here? This country was FOUNDED AND POPULATED by homesteaders. They acquired LAND to build on.

"Stole" might be more accurate in the broad sense. Modern, city and suburban residents do not "buy land to put a house on"; they are not "homesteaders". They buy a house; most don't give a shit about land, which is why we see 8 feet between 5000 square foot homes. I bet if you were to run a survey more suburbans would know the square footage of their home than the acreage upon which it sits.

Seriously, do not even try to get into arguments based on this preposition, frame, whatever you want to call it. It is a phony premise to begin with, and they were spoonfed it by McCain/Palin/Rush last year. Unfortunately it is the type of argument that only people with a predisposition to blame the poor, which prefigures the disgust needed to counter it.

Look, ask them why they think subprime is only based on NINJA loans...ask them where those numbers are...they are in PRIVATE FOR PROFIT institutions, they dont want people to know that this wasnt just 'poor people' getting houses but it was people 'flipping' and investing in second homes (possibly for rent).

They are starting with a phony premise, dont follow them into that black hole. We will lose that argument.

Even when the government "gave it away" the first time, they didn't "really" own it ..That's why so many Native Americans were so pissed off.

And the term "homeowner" is a misnomer too.. The term home-BUYER should be substituted UNTIL you have made that last payment:)
