CNN pushing the possibility of impeachment hard tonight.
Wolf and Lou both kept hammering away at the possibility of impeachment and asking pundits what the odds were it might happen.

I was busy cooking and was surprised how negative (toward the GOP) the coverage was. Even Dumpfuckistaners will get it that these are all criminals on the take, in need of investigations and indictments.

This is a nice change. Anyone else notice?

1. Weird.
I boycott all the cable "news" channels but your comments are interesting. What was the motive for them suddenly asking about impeachment? And how do their guests respond?

2. Set up to fail, I suspect
We still don't have the votes. I suspect they want us to try to impeach and drive LIEberman off and kill our majority. The corporate media wouldn't be floating this without a trap door, I fear.

4. Scarborough is talking about * incompetence
And the possibility of impeachment. But I like you suspect they are floating it early to kill it later when the real crimes come out.

7. They are ALL talking about it to create a sense of failure when we don't do it
Instead of talking up the criminal behavior we expose and the resignations and scandal related to that.

They are ALL talking about impeachment in an attempt to split the growing unity on the left, which is easily split between the 'realists or moderates' and the 'idealists' who want impeachment now, out of Iraq now, etc. (I too want those things, but I know we aint getting them tomorrow)

So, they talk it up then shove it in the Dem's face that they couldn't pull it off. Concerted, calculated effort to undercut the success we are now having exposing their crimes and corruption.

They are only doing this because the bullshit recycled mea culpa stories (KSM 9/11 confession and Pat Tillman officer accountability report) didn't cause sufficient distraction to take the US Atty scandal off the front burner.

BEWARE anytime the MSM appears to be doing us any favors.

27. I think it's more like a trial balloon
Congressional Republicans and many of the party rank and file have been chafing under the Administration's heavy hand (aided by their minions in the congressional leadership, as well as Rove's network of (mostly) ex-CR storm troopers. They are smelling blood (not just Bush's, but their own) and are beginning to consider whether to push Bush out.

This is something I've been expecting and predicting for a while (I'm an ex- Republican who in a past life worked with some of the guys now in Congress).

Impeachment has always been a real possibility. The Republican Party is not composed solely of mindless monsters. Once it looks like they could get out from under this Administration and the current party leadership without committing political suicide, they will bolt.

On a slightly-related note: I'm still finishing it up, but I have set up a discussion board for ex- Republicans (and current Rs who are thinking about bolting the party, or who are trying to resist the protofascist crap from the inside): http://www.exrepublicans.info/forum/. Non-Republicans (including DUers) are welcome as "friends of the board" if they're respectful of the purpose of the board and its members. People who show up to bash exes, whether as "traitors to the party" or as "enablers of Bush" are not welcome -- the GOP has become something of a cult in recent years, and a lot of exes need a supportive place to de-cultify themselves.

28. Some of us realists also understand that
this is an organic effort

Them votes will materialize, especially if the MSM starts pushing it.

That will make it more desirable amongs those who have not thought abouit it and the pressure will start on the split and non votes.

Remember, the votes were not there either when Watergate started

32. At this point I would favor impeachment even without the votes to convict
The Democratic party should be on the record that they regard the BushCo regime as criminal.

3. So is MSNBC - I think it's gonna happen but only because of
the 2008 election. The repubs only hope is to put someone in now who people might want to keep in 2008. None of them can spin the many scandals to their benefit no matter how hard they try.

24. Yep. If beelzebush is impeached, it will be by the repukes..
I've always said that. Bush is in the process of destroying the republican party. It's either them or the chimperor. The Dems don't have to do a thing. They will win either way. It's just a matter of how badly the repukes will lose.

I think there are shifts behind the scenes .... I remember a short time ago when Bush rejected the Baker group's recommendations, I thought that he may have made a larger error than he thought.

Edited on Mon Mar-26-07 10:18 PM by Garbo 2004
was released. Shocking. I came home from work and thought I'd walked into an alternate reality.

Donning my :tinfoilhat: ... Are the Repubs trying to throw the bait out to the Dems to see if they bite? Or is it evidence that the PTB (the $$$ and men behind the curtain) have turned against a clear liability and a Dem Congress would provide cover and a useful tool should it be deemed necessary? Is it a hint from the PTB to the Administration that the unitary decidin' days should be over...or else?

I figure at the least it's not a good news day for the Administration when such matters are openly discussed on a Time/Warner outlet, a GE outlet, and Novak writes about Bush's isolation as being worse than Nixon's at the end. Jeebus. (Novak oh by the way had it from a "credible source" {Karl, is that you?} that Bush will never pardon Libby.)

Busy news day I missed. Or maybe I'm just dreaming.

Tinfoil aside, I'd wager that if it should ever come to the point, Bush would not do a Nixon. He doesn't recognize Congress' authority (back to that Constitution thingy you mentioned in another thread). I figure the PTB would prefer to neuter him rather than something as disruptive as impeachment. But I don't think the fella takes kindly to helpful hints, him bein' the decider and all.

Meantime in other news, on Scarborough it went from impeachment to Couric to Anna Nicole's buttocks. The last indicated to me that I was back in my familiar world and order had been restored to this universe.

There's no place like home, there's no place like home... :)

They made it seem like impeachment was going to happen this summer. It was truly mesmorizing I couldn't turn it off.

After all, if this were any other subject, we'd be screaming about them just reading "the talking points." So what is different about this?

Take with many, many grains of salt. Don't let your guard down. Suspect we're being played -- we should be used to it by now.

20. I think,...
... the Republican party can no longer afford Bush and his lies and stupidity.

There is a senatorial election coming up and if this crap continues, the Republicans can forget about any kind of congressional power for a very long time.

At this point, throwing Bush overboard might well be their best option.
