WOULD YOU RATHER THE DJI HITS 3000 OR A T REX CHASED YOU THRU CENTRAL PARK?
Deep Thought

Stolen from bigmike ...@gmail.com, someone who clearly doesn't care for the way our free market system is working at the moment:

WOULD YOU RATHER THE DJI HITS 3000 OR A T REX CHASED YOU THRU CENTRAL PARK bigmik..@gmail.com - 2 minutes ago (1 post) (Note: DJI stands for the Dow Jones Index, the most popularly referenced stock market index in America)

I suppose for a lot of people there really isn't much of a difference. Getting eaten by a dinosaur might be quicker. Certainly it would put a lot of stock traders out of their misery.

26. Precisely what I was thinking
but it's called the "Ramble". :-)

An even less T. rex-friendly area is up at the north end, by the Blockhouse and along that little stream.

I'd cage that sucker up and make a million on the carnie circuit...

36. Capitalism has predictably destroyed the world
and caused more misery to more people than any other system in history.

And odds are all of us on this board have done relatively well by it and enjoy material wealth, unlike the planetary majority. So this is a place where people can delude themselves into thinking the failure of capitalism would cause more suffering than its continuation. (Of course, the failure of capitalism is built into capitalism, but when it finally dies many people will blame its critics.)

People before profits and the insane idea that you can keep growing production and using more energy than nature can renew on a small planet will probably still be causing vast misery hundreds of years after this system undergoes its final, completely predictable collapse. I certainly hope to see it in my lifetime, but sadly there is no guarantee.

And I know it may be a horrible and miserable sight, and that I myself may suffer when the shit goes down. But I will hardly have been the cause -- the super-rich people who are worshipped under capitalism like gods are responsible for what they above others wrought.

T-Rex or DOW down? That anyone would ask shows the mental illness of our society.

At any rate, capitalism has failed and it will continue to fail, and just as there was a day not long ago in history when there was not yet a DJI, so too there be another soon when there will no longer be a DJI.

out of "our" misery? Couldn't we arrange this so the t-rex eats them? I think we would all be better off with that scenario.

9. They were meat eaters
We could probably come pretty close to cloning a T-Rex at this point. Might be interesting. I sure don't want the DOW to hit 3000. That would be a disaster for us.

Not what they ate. T-Rex's teeth were gigantic.

Air travel is just so inconvenient nowadays, that I shudder at the thought of a trip to NYC just to be chased through Central Park. ;-)

20. That's easy: T. Rex
1) Me being chased by a T. Rex really doesn't affect a whole lot of people.

2) T. Rex is huge, with a lot of momentum. All one needs to do is build up speed and change direction when he catches up.

3) Many researches believe that T. Rex was actually quite slow - larger ones reaching top speeds of only about 5 MPH.

25. Pedantic: It is DJIA, not DJI.
Dow Jones Industrial Average. DJI is just a stock ticker that tracks it.

If someone is going to talk/pontificate about it, perhaps they should know what it really is called.

Personally, I want to see accountability. I want to see those responsible for the fraud such as mortgage brokersa/appraisers, hedge fund manipulators, AIG / Banking executives, ratings agencies, etc convicted and doing hard time.

I would just start buying the highest yielding DOW stocks, and treat it like a bond, rather than an equity.
