If Citibank is nationalized, will my student loan repayment change at all?

what would you expect to happen?

When the S&L situation occurred, the government sold off the assets piecemeal so that over time, people loans had to be paid to a different lender. But not much else changed except where you had to remit payment.

I knew I would still owe the money and be responsible for repayment, but I was curious if I was going to have pay more or less every month.

the government setup an agency to hold the assets of the failed S&Ls
Than it sold the assets piecemeal.

To the borrowers, there loans weren't modified.
But they may have had to change the address where they remitted payment.

But mail forwarding occurred if the payments went to the old addresses.

5. you should not expect to see your payment obligation change

unless you have an adjustable rate loan.

7. I think you know the answer to your own question...

All the 'fire sale' deals are done in the back office. Intermediate companies make profit off buying your loan at a discount, then charging you the original terms. They never allow the consumer to buy their own loan at the discount. Instead it gets written off and the company gets a tax deduction for it.
