29. The most irritating thing about this is it's not rocket science
I urge everyone to watch this video:

http://www.wgby.org/podcasts/index.html (scroll down to The Crash Course: The End of Money?).

The reasons for this crisis are very common sense and yet still have not been addressed by anyone in power (or by anyone here who still believes that the stimulus is going to save us or that everything's going to be OK).

13. I had a fellow commuter tell me today that her company is in a rush to outsource
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 11:02 PM by rainbow4321
Random conversation with a woman as I was on an escalator this morning..she worked in the building, I was transferring from the train to the bus I take to work. As we got on the escalator she commented that "it used to be" that the escalator would be packed with people with jobs in the building heading to work..this morning there were maybe a handful. So many in her building have lost their jobs.
She went on to say that she may be in risk of losing her own job in 6 weeks...her company is "in a rush" to get as much outsourcing done as possible "before Obama can do something that might make them have to stop outsourcing jobs". She was in a meeting with 14 other co workers that was led by their VP..it was pretty much told to them that a good portion of people in the room would be losing their jobs...sooner rather than later.
Guess we'll find out soon enough if this is the mentality of US companies if we see a surge of outsourcing in the next few months. But then again maybe we won't "see" it..unless it is a big name company what are the odds of it making headline, national news?

35. Yes.
Like an alcoholic or a drug addict, UNTIL we can admit that there is an extremely serious problem, nothing will be seriously done to correct it. wall street, corporate america, congress and the WH aided and abetted one another in destroying our economy and financial system; both sides of the aisle are corrupt and culpable.

42. Exactly!
Everyone is talking about Bill Clinton's statement that Obama needs to be more optimistic, but at what point does hope turn into complete denial? If we're truly this close to a collapse, maybe it's time to cut the feel good bullsh*t and talk about the problems like adults.

46. Denninger is usually an asshole and he's a Libertarian-leaning
Republican. But, one thing I've noticed about him is that he hates political debates on his sites and he tries really, REALLY, hard not to be partisan. He skewered the * admin and he's skewered the Obama admin. I've been following his writings for 1 1/2 years, since I first suspected how much trouble we're in and he has been right all along. If you go back on his Market Ticker, it's all there long before it manifested itself here and now.

He's even written to the administration, done petitions, and everything he can to make them stop their destructive policies, both * and Obama, and he's specifically communicated his views on how to stop this mess directly to Senator Obama's office and yet Obama continues the destructive course we're on.

I'm livid with Obama right now.

49. Are you familiar with The Crash Course?
A DU'er posted this link a week or two ago: http://www.chrismartenson.com/crashcourse and I'm facinated by what I've seen so far. If you have a few minutes to spare, I highly recommend watching Chapter 16: Fuzzy Numbers. I would like to get your feedback on it and see if it echos what Denninger has written about in the 1 1/2 you've been reading his work.

Thanks for the link. He has some very good points and, certainly, a good grasp of the REAL situation. As you posted below, you can see his Libertarian leanings but, imo, that doesn't negate the facts he has iterated.

It's similar to hearing that a 35 year old has heart disease and has a high risk of dying within the next 5 years. Nobody wants to hear it.

20. It was a tiny bank, only 3 branches
There will be a lot more, even more this weekend. Probably a few hundred this year. Lots of these small banks are closely tied to construction companies and small businesses that are on the edge. These loans will sour this year.

The residential downturn is about over. Commercial real estate, construction companies, retail shops, etc, will be folding next.

26. I don't doubt it.
And it scares me. We're retired pretty much and had money in IRAs that would give us a comfortable retirement. Not any more.

My older son is 31 and is looking at 8% interest to pay off his student loans. We can't help at this point. His partner works for CitiGroup and every day she worries that it will be her last day.

I do believe that America will not be the way it used to be any time soon. For those of us who have to rely on what we put away it could be a disaster.

to take back congress in 2010, more of the same lies, & corporate bullshit as we've seen for the past eight years of republicans tax cuts & deregulation for the rich & corporations...exactly what got us here - this republican mess (they & their MSM are relentlessly & shamelessly trying to blame the Dems for) they stole our treasury & everything else that wasn't nailed down!!

The republicans don't care about our country, only about having power making us workers, corporate slaves with no retirement, SS, unemployment insurance nor health care for us workers....For more tax cuts for their rich friends & corporations.

Republicans, what can one say, worse than slime below the level of leeches & maggots!

Selfish, lying, sick, greedy hateful corporate republicans!
