Poll question: Should Al Franken be declared the winner in MN
Sooner rather than later? Next week?

Downballot: Going and going and going
Posted: Friday, February 20, 2009 9:26 AM by Domenico Montanaro

MINNESOTA: The latest, per the Star-Tribune: Pressing its case in the Senate election trial, Norm Coleman's campaign argued Thursday that some votes already tallied during the recount must be illegal, going by a ruling issued by the judges last week. It's a mess that only the court can fix, Coleman spokesman Ben Ginsberg said. ‘There are more illegal votes in the current counts than in Al Franken's erstwhile <225-vote> lead, ... the margin in the race right now,’ Ginsberg said after Thursday's proceedings.”

Yesterday on Hardball, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty said this could take to the "summer or longer" and that there's "no end in sight." He said not having a senator "puts us at a disadvantage" because the big issues are being decided in Washington and Minnesota is lacking in representation. He didn't push for someone to be seated, however. And he went on to criticize the stimulus.

3. Norm Coleman is the most disgusting thing around right now
but this will just make the moment Franken gets into the Senate much nicer for us. and we should throw it in the GOP faces, especially Coleman's face.

i will laugh at Coleman. i hope we see him in tears and i will laugh at him even more.

The hatred spewed on AM radio, day and night but particularly at night, defines the word disgusting.

14. Norm Coleman is fifty pounds of shit in a five pound sack.
A disgrace to Minnesota, and to humanity in general. A sorry little greaseweasel trying to hang on to a seat he has already lost by any means (which will be unsuccessful) possible. The election court is hammering the hell out of him, his lawyers change their theories 180 degrees every day and he FUCKING LOST! Jeebus, this walking piece of dogshit disgusts me.

17. Reader's comments
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&ned=&ie=UTF-8&ncl=1304391678

All the reader's comments I've read tonight are pro-Franken. Some are speculating that Coleman will take it to SCOTUS for a try at a new election. It doesn't look like he's very favorable right now. Might not be in his best interest.

39. Yes, I've read they have no intention of letting this go.
They will do anything to deny the Democratic Party that 59th seat. In the end it won't matter, but they will have more leverage than they should have for longer. The strategy of sociopaths imo, considering the monumental tasks ahead of our President.

That's just how they roll.

18. Yes
Coleman and his lawyers have essentially argued in support of both sides of every legal aspect involved in the case, and still haven't been able to steal this one for the 'pugs. Give it up, Norm.

GOP leaders seek donations for Coleman via YouTube

Star Tribune

A dozen Republican heavyweights debuted on YouTube this week, pleading for donations to help Norm Coleman pay his legal bills in his fight to regain Minnesota's U.S. Senate race.

The two-minute ad, produced by Coleman's election campaign, is straightforward about Coleman's financial needs and emphasizes the importance of holding 42 GOP seats in the Senate.

Former Senator Coleman

If there is a shred of justice in this process, the title of this post should be accurate. Amazing how the carpetbagging Coleman called on … read more Mr. Franken to "do the right thing" and drop out of contention when the Senator was in the lead. Equally amazing, but not surprising, how Senator Coleman will not follow his own call to "do the right thing" when he is trailing in the race. Senator Coleman's arrogance and failed execution of his office are his principal traits - this is unarguable. He should go away, toting his carpetbag to another region of the country - to continue his exploitative ways. Hopefully, we will soon have a Senator Franken in Washington, D.C. to bolster the ability of the majority to effect damage control thrust upon us by the Bush-Cheney Regime.

30. MN has a legal electoral process that must be followed.
Neither the Democratic MN SOS or the Republican governor have certified Franken as the winner. He has not been proclaimed the winner either. I want to see Franken as a senator whose election is above reproach, so he cannot be strong-armed into office or bypass the legal process. We scream bloody murder when Republicans do that. It would be nice to see some posters who actually live in MN and know the situation give an informed and knowledgeable opinion on this subject instead of just what we wish would happen.

37. I am in WI across the river from MN and we get a lot of MN news.
Franken cannot be the winner until he gets certified by both the secretary of state and the governor (remember why the Senate would not seat Burris? He was not certified by both.). I would reckon if you were to go to the MN state forum and ask that there are people who would know first hand what is going on there.

I never liked Norm Coleman in the first place and I dislike him all the more after the legal temper-tanrums he's throwing over his obvious defeat.

36. Update: Franken gives interview!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x5103768

Al Franken: Well, Frannie and I Iook at each other at night, usually right before we go to bed, and go like: "How long is this gonna go on?" But, it really looks now that it's going to get resolved in my favor, and soon, and so I'm actually excited to get there. So that sort of overcomes the frustration of: "How long can this go on?"
