What sci-fi movie will most closely resemble the coming dystopia?
Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 11:00 AM by burythehatchet
I try to envision the vision of life (and death) that is coming to our world. I think about movies like Mad Max and Brazil (my choice) and wonder what the world will resemble, and what my role will be, besides surviving. i.e. perhaps a real underground?

If you think about this please share your thoughts.

2. the Fifth Element or Jonny Mnemonic
Corporations firing a half a million people with one memo (5th Element) or a very divided populace - the uber wealthy versus the grotty people who live in blown out buildings, living with a technology caused disease (Mnemonic).

The working class is getting pushed into a garbage pile right now.

very sad and very hopeful (in a weird way). Like after mankind learned its lesson, the children came back.

When bird flu came on the scene they said that if it ever became an airborne disease it would be up to 80% fatal. I am quite sure Dick picked up the phone and told someone to get on it. It would not suprise me in the least to find that a small vial marked with an omega symbol was among the contents of his man sized safe.

I don't think under Obama's administration things have to get worse and worse and worse. They're actually trying to fix the problems. And the problems are all at heart paper problems that spill over into the real economy anyway. It doesn't have to be this way.

I nominate Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure / Bogus Journey. The future society will be one of peace and harmony based on rock and roll guitar (Wyld Stallyns) and being excellent to each other.

The U.S. breaks down into a whole bunch of corporate mini-nation-states, society breaks down into all sorts of little factions that are scrabbling for their piece of the action.

Gangs become corporatized. Hell, churches become corporatized and open franchises that are run like a McDonalds (Welcome to Rev. Wayne's Pearly Gates, would you like fries with your brainwashing?) The government of what's left of the United States takes secrecy and paranoia to a whole new level.

Hyper stagflation soon.Currently deflation with some mild inflation in necessities like gas, food, energy.Everything else deflating, houses boats, cars, clothing.Very soon widespread depression level unemployment and severe inflation. You're unemployed and everything costs a lot more, particularly stuff you really need.
WE NEED AND VOTED FOR CHANGE.We're not getting it.Obama,so far is just carrying on the same old Bush policies in economic and foreign policies.A new face on the same old disastrous thinking that has got us to where we are today.

56. Well, I have to update my thinking. I just saw a movie called The Dragon's Teeth
followed by The Good Earth. Both films set in China, Dragon Seed set in WWII and the Good Earth well before that period.

That's what I see in our future. The part that I had not yet incorporated is the role of the militias that will constitute in various locals. Armed factions foraging for food and other wealth will be the big security issue.
